Jay Z’s “Tom Ford” Inspires Tom Ford Dress Design

On Jay Z’s “Tom Ford,” the rapper makes a proclamation against a drug and in promotion of a designer. “I don’t pop molly,” Jay Z raps on the track. “I rock Tom Ford.” During recent concerts, Jay has worn a T-shirt that features “Tom Ford” in the front and “Molly” crossed out in the back. That shirt design was used for a Tom Ford dress design recently, according to NYMag

Tom Ford has called this design “a knock-off of the knock-off,” according to NYMag.

In July, Jay Z released the lyrics to the song with some of the lyrics blacked out. To view the lyric announcement, click here. In December, Jay Z released a Pimp C-assisted “Tom Ford” remix. To listen to the track, click here.

Jay Z’s “Tom Ford” was released on Magna Carta…Holy Grail, an album which received a 4 out of 5 X rating on HipHopDX. “Jay Z finds himself in a strange place artistically in 2013,” HipHopDX said at the time. “The signs were there in 2007, when Jay reverted to coke rap on the excellent American Gangster. While doing so was a response to lukewarm reception to 2006’s comeback album Kingdom Come, Jay more reverted to the same territory on 2009’s The Blueprint 3 and 2011’s Watch the Throne. Though Kanye West’s presence on the latter allowed Jay a bit of latitude to work some social commentary, Throne was hardly a departure from the Jay Z we’ve seen for much the past decade. So where does that leave Shawn Carter musically in 2013? In pretty damn good shape, it turns out.”
