Jay Z & Solange Fight A Publicity Stunt, Says Mathew Knowles

According to Mathew Knowles, the father of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, the fight between Solange and Jay Z in a hotel elevator in May was a “Jedi mind trick.” He went on to allude to the fight being a publicity stunt that resulted in increased ticket sales and album sales.

“The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot of times,” Knowles said during an interview with 104.1 KRBE. “So, things you see sometimes are ‘poof.’ All I know is the Jedi mind trick. Everybody’s talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 100 percent.”

Following the release of video footage of the altercation, Solange saw a dramatic increase in digital sales. According to Nielsen SoundScan data obtained by HipHopDX in May, the Houston, Texas songstress’ individual track sales were at 600 the week before the fight and increased to 2,000 the week of the fight.

In addition to speaking on the altercation between Solange and Jay Z, Knowles also hinted at the possibility of a Destiny’s Child reunion concert and album featuring Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.

“I still am the manager of Destiny’s Child,” he said. “And when you see Destiny’s Child on TV and you see them doing songs together slowly, slowly. Now they’ve done two. They were recently on TV. I don’t know. It might be another Destiny’s Child album coming. There might be this tour that makes history. That features Destiny’s Child featuring Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle. Can you imagine what that would be like?”

Following the release of video footage from the fight between Solange and Jay Z, the two artists along with Beyoncé released the following statement:

“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

Beyoncé also addressed the altercation on her newly-released “Flawless (Remix).” On the record, which also features Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé raps, “Up in this shit like elevators. Of course some shit go down when there’s a billion dollars on an elevator.”

    1. all i’ve ever asked is that if you’re going to quote a song lyric…please listen to the song and get it right. it will take you 30 seconds. I’m sorry if that is way too much to ask from my black brothers on a hip hop website.

    2. Don’t believe the hype guys. The fight was a real event. Papa Knowles is trying to salvage the image of his family. Jay HATES taking L’s (see his L to Nas), why would he want an additional L on his record, especially an L that involves a female beating him up! Go sit down Papa Knowles.

    3. 2 of the biggest snakes and fakes in music

      all smilies for the cameras

but behind closed doors LOL ………………..

    4. I think Mr Knowles bringing this up later on while speaking about a reunion that would benefit him is a publicity stunt.

      1. Agreed, this was to get people talking about a Destiny Child Reunion and to get some numbers thrown out so he can convince Beyonce to do it.

    5. aint gonna lie, in high school and college jay-z was my hood hero but now I cant really stand the guy. they both seem like overly bourgeois and insincere like two empty people
