Jay Z Promises He’s Not Drunk As He Salutes His Favorite Rappers On Twitter

We were given a rare glimpse into Jay Z’s life Thursday (June 15) when Hov took to Twitter to list the many rappers who inspired him over his long career.

Jay began the 90-minute tweetstorm simply by saying “Thank you to all the people that have inspired me,” before launching into an extensive list of other artists who have made a meaningful contribution to the game. He reserved special praise for President Barack Obama, calling him “the greatest rapper of all time.”

The thread followed Jay Z’s induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday night.

Of course, we can’t forget that Jay is 47 now, and not a regular Twitter user. The thread got a little rocky at times, with Jay even asking “Somebody find that reply I just hit please,” but he managed to bring it back, though he had to promise us all that he wasn’t drunk.

So who made the list? Too many for us to name… Luckily, Jay Z has got it covered. Take it away, Hov.

All that aside, Jay showed love to anybody out there making music for any reason: “Anyway salute to anybody who made a song to feed their family or just vent.”

        1. DMX isn’t the only X out there. Xzibit (like dude said above), Sadat X, X-Clan, Mia X or, since he’s also mentioning new rappers, maybe XXXTenatacion.

        1. I think you’re right. Anyone who he shouted out should great. He’s one of the few true greats. And wow hip hop really has a great message these days look how people are uniting as one. Whatever the case, or whoever he was talking about, the tweets were awesome and lit peoples days up.

    1. Ghostface – Andre 3000 – Redman – Nas – Biggie – Eminem – Method Man – Killer Mike – Kendrick – Rakim.

    2. Obviously, something was up, fake, I mean King Hov saluting a broke stan named Nas and none of the ROC boys? Okay….

      1. He saluted the roc boys idiot. Do you just rush to the comments section of every Jay or Nas article just to sound like an idiot? I think you do. Grow tf up.

    5. Hey come and join THE VERSUS GROUP on Facebook where we debate on a wide range of topics from who is the best martial artists, the worst actor, the best rapper, greatest team of all time, the sexiest actress, the fastest car, or even the worst president. All debaters and opinions are welcome.

    6. This is so dope. So dope that he mentioned Redman, X, The Lox and even Joe Budden!!!! So dope! This also marks the first time F*ckQueensbridge disagrees with Jay, hahahaha

    7. Jay’s body of work is way better than Jada’s. None of Jada’s solos are anywhere near Reasonable Doubt or the Blueprint.

    8. if you listen to drake, meek mill, tip, quavo, future , travis and young thug and you get inspired by them you need to kill yourself

      1. but those people are all relevant artists of today. With the exception of meek mill they all have an incredible sound. Re-evaluate

      2. Except TIP. The rest you named obviously mentioned just for the fuck of it, since his best shit was released long before their careers started.

    9. he missed stic.man and m-1 (dead prez)……they had him drpped one of his very few ‘conscious’ verses off hell yeah remix

    10. What surprised me is that he shouted out thizzelle washington (mac dre) in addition to too short and E40,that shit is koo as hell.

      1. $hort and E-40 got lots of love from NY back in the early 90s when they were transitioning to the Biggie/Nas/Wu mid 90s era along with lots of other West Coast artists. One of Biggie’s favorite rappers and who you can hear influenced in his style is King Tee. It’s like how Premier and Eiht, WC, and all of those dudes been tight forever back to the 90s when nobody would know if they weren’t paying attention.

    11. 2 things. Everybody feels entitled to put Jay down when one of their fav artists isn’t on the list. I’m assuming it’s off the top of his head. He can’t get everybody in one shot. This isn’t an album cover where the artist had the time to think and add thank you’s on the album cover credits. 2nd thing. The quick to call him out responses of those putting him down stating so and so isn’t on the list when in fact that said artist is mentioned. We’ve got to do better than rush to spiteful decisions and comments without thinking things over, and looking over facts.

      1. You rite folks. Shouldn’t nobody black be put him down. If you want to keep 100 fuck the rappers he said Obama that ends it all. One love

    12. There is a scandal involving the box office of the new tupac film. This was tracking to open with maybe 10 million at best. All of a sudden, its now doing 35 million. The reason why this feels overinflated is the same exact reason why straight outta compton was overinflated. Universal Executives for that film were buying whole showtimes (all the available seats) and were giving the tickets away for free (even offering to pay them $30 if they still refuse until they choose to see the film. Same thing is happening here. I know this because I went to 4 different theaters to see 4 different films and they each have a booth where they were desperately giving away tickets for free, having to bribe them with money to see their crap.

      1. Foh with that nonsense. Take your grievances to Fox News. I’m sure they’d be interested putting a black movie down. Wait…Simpleton…I mean Singleton. Is that you????

    13. I can only imagine the first round draft pic of names listed had dudes hearts jumping like Jordan lol

    14. lol i know the reason he didnt mention bone thugs n harmony in there :)) cuz bizzy beat him in a rap battle lol krayzie bone and bizzy would destroy jay z in rap battle, lyrics every single day !!!

    15. he didnt mention Missy? KRS’ early work is so underrated. all yall hating on Wale and he inspires Jay-Z
