JAY-Z doesn’t have an album in his catalog that’s better than 2Pac‘s groundbreaking album All Eyez on Me, according to Bay Area rapper Spice 1.
On the latest segment from his conversation with The Art of Dialogue, Spice 1 said he doesn’t believe Jigga or anyone has a better album than ‘Pac’s fourth studio album. According to Spice, 2Pac’s album is one he can listen to from beginning to end with no skips.
“Yeah, hell yeah, I mean shit, I mean damn All Eyez on Me and Makaveli, like come on, man. Like, what can you compare to that shit,” Spice said. “It’s not too many whole albums you can compare to that ’cause only album I could compare to All Eyez on Me is like one of the first N.W.A. albums or something.”
He continued: “‘Cause I can listen to every song, and all of them slap. Every muthafuckin’ song slaps. It’s a difference when you got maybe six songs on the album, and they all bang but every fucking song, and then you got a double CD and every song on that muthafucka slapping. Every song, not one of them muthafuckas was just an OK song.”
Spice 1 then brought up the fact that his own self-titled debut album sold one million copies with no features, and that still wasn’t a big enough deal to surpass what ‘Pac was able to do with All Eyez on Me. As Spice explained, there was really no competition for ‘Pac.
“Like, shit, man, you can’t compete with that shit. My first album, we did a million copies with no features,” Spice said. “I was just on there by myself. I didn’t have Dr. Dre or nobody famous making big beats for me. I had Ant Banks, Blackjack and E-A-Ski making my beats. So with all of that said, shit, when you do shit like that, shit is timeless. Like that first album went platinum with no features on there shit, you can’t fuck with that.
Spice 1 went on to say one of his favorite JAY-Z songs was one with Beanie Sigel but didn’t make it clear which record. He did say that whenever Hov linked up with Beans, it was guaranteed to be something special, and he wanted to collaborate with the Broad Street Bully because of that.
2Pac’s All Eyez on Me was released on February 13, 1996 and was the first double-disc Hip Hop album in history. It charted at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, selling 566,000 copies in its first week.
The album was also nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1997 Grammy Awards and certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2014.
Reasonable Doubt is better than All Eyez On Me. AEOM is a 2nd rate DOGGYSTYLE.
There’s a reason you name your self Tone Deaf with that opinion lol
I’m glad someone finally gets my gimmick.
Reasonable doubt is a super classic, one of my favorite albums ever, but do agree with Spice 1 All eyez on me is better than Reasonable doubt which is Jay’s best album to me.
First and foremost salute to the real west coast legends Daz and Rip Johnny J for the classic production they provided to All eyes on me. Disc 1 is a complete masterpiece and Ambitious as a ridah is the greatest intro to any album I’ve ever heard. PAC got straight to the point. It’s insane to think he made this album at 25 then turned around and made the Makaveli album in a week. In LA , 92.3 and 106 play All eyes on me at least 5-7 times a day. The replay value is crazy. The impact is crazy. Jay can rap better, but Jay doesn’t have more impactful songs. No radio stations are playing Jay songs like that. The youth don’t care about Jay music like that. They don’t wanna hear billionaire talk. They wanna hear real authentic music that’s relatable to the mass public. From Mexico, Europe, Africa, Asia PAC music still ringing.
These clowns. Reasonable Doubt isn’t Jay’s best album – The Blueprint is. Also, Pac’s Me Against The World is far superior to Reasonable Doubt. Not sure why everyone wants to hop on Reasonable Doubt unless they were too young to remember when it came out. Was Reasonable Doubt better than ATLiens, The Score, AEOM, or Illadelph Halflife? No chance. RD was midlevel.
Revisionist history. It was a nice album, but it is no classic. It was basically a copycat of Raekwon’s Only Built for Cuban Links. Every hip hop head said that shit at the time.
Maybe they all saying RD because to them it’s they favorite and best album from Jay. I would take RD over Blueprint as well. It’s no right or wrong but everybody has their favorites
Everybody likes something different. Volume 1 is my favorite. You must love is one of my favorite Jay songs.
The quality of the quantity of Pacs work isn’t really matched by anyone. Jay Z doesn’t have a record better than All eyes on me but he has a lot of good work. But a lot of the guys that came out in the 90’s have high quality work with their first 3 or 4 albums, Jay, Nas, Wu tang, Bone Thugs, Outkast, Common, Tribe Called Quest Mobb Deep, UGK, Ice Cube, Snoop, even some of the guys that didn’t drop until the late 90’s like Eminem, Dmx, 50 cent. I wanna say Epmd as well but their first joint drop in the late 80’s. Spice 1 was a beast on a mic himself he doesn’t get enough credit
Yep. Spice One’s first three albums were great. It’s hard to believe how big of stars some of these dudes were and how good of music they were putting out that totally get shit on by these kids today listening to inferior music any way you slice it. I’d be embarrassed if my point was you’re not relevant because I’m listening to this trash out today, but you have no actual leg to stand on if we were just going on which one sounds good. Today’s hip hop fan is more of fan of the people they rock with and not their actual music.
I wouldn’t say Snoop had a lot of quality in his first 3 to 4 albums. His 2nd was a major flop thay disappointed all of us when it dropped. Doggystyle remains Snoops undisputed best work, by far. And his work on Dogg Pounds Dogg Food album. I’d say Snoops second best was Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and I don’t wanna hear anything from that again, so dated sounding.
West Coast and down Souf rappers don’t know shit about hip-hop outside of their region.
All eyes on me is by far the best album ever produced
Jay only has a couple of good albums, and none of them are 5 out of 5 albums. All Eyez on Me is not Pac’s best album though.
He lying no way can he sit through Whatz Ya Phone # lmao
He lying, no way can he sit through Whatz Ya Phone # lmao
He lying, no way can he sit through Whatz Ya Phone # lmao
That’s hilarious! It was the one song I never cared for on the entire album lol! It has grown just a bit on me recently, but back in the day I always wondered how and why it ended up on the album. Great point!
It’s his opinion, so there is no need to debate it. All Eyes On Me definitely made Suge even richer.
2pac was more than happy to accept beats taken by Suge from other artists to finish his damn album. muthafucker (2pac…he dead now so 2Bad) accepted (stole) a double album worth of beats! He hiphops biggest thief!
I never skip tracks, because I like albums and concepts. There are many perfect records btw from The Low End Theory to Home Invasion. From Enter the Wu-Tang to Enta da Stage. That Jay-Z comparison is ridiculous and obvious – straight clickbait.
All eyes on me is a double disc that has a lot of filler, that album is average at best. Reasonable doubt and imltv1 are better then all eyes , and the Same goes for makaveli. You wasn’t there
A lot of fillers that are bangers. 2Pac was such a good rapper/poet that he could make any beat sound better especially wit his voice. I remember back when rappers were trying to sound like Pac especially after he passed. Jay Z got some good songs, I ain’t gonna deny that. But 2Pac will always be the best rapper to me. If you like Jay Z more then that’s what you like. But 2pac was making great music up till he died. Then people started editing his music and beats and didn’t do it the way Pac would of wanted his music to sound. Though some of it is decent.
Agree but I also don’t believe Jay Z Reasonable doubt or Blueprint can top DMX joints either or Nas 1st 2 albums. As Big Gipp said when those 2 Giants were walking they smoked everything moving (Pac & Big), so unless you were in NY no one talking about Jay-Z. No substance just money talk but he is a talented rapper.
Biggie > Tupac > Jay Z
Big is nice but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Pac went against the entire Eastcoast and destroy almost all those rappers. Big is not better than Pac. Big learned his style from Pac
Crazy part is that All Eyez on Me is possibly the greatest rap album of all time but Makaveli album is possibly better than it. There’s no skips on those two albums. Not one skip. There’s also probably no skips on Me Against World as well.
Reasonable doubt better than anything 2pac. Nigga was great but super overrated partly because he’s dead. He was good but not canon.
Everybody hates Jay and tryna run around with tangential comparisons. Firstly admit for yourself that you got none on him. Then bring in all those dead men.
“I count three me ye and Ri”
“out the mud they gotta face you now you can’t make up that shit”
“No we just corner boys with the corner office”
“E was down 10 for this”
“we pushing Fenty like fentanyl”
“am now careful with the sentences”
“they said they don’t know me internationally niggas on the road did”
“hindsight is 20/20”
“next time we have a discussion who the GOAT is you donkeys know this!”
FOH. All Eyez on Me is good but it has a good portion of filler. Reasonable Doubt + Blueprint are both better.
1st of all Biggie better than Jay. The “Greatest lyricist” from NY was a bitter, takin Biggie lyrics and 2pac lyrics he not original at all Nas killed him wit ether. The hip-hop world is bias now cuz he makin billions he not bout that life pac and big stand alone then the rest but DEFINITELY not Jay-z
I’m sorry to say someone’s blowing smoke of jigger’s ass cuz you can’t touch Tupac I don’t know whatever you talking about jigging all that money he has what I got to do a rap I was sitting there and listen to rap before Jim ever came out call the money he got that’s all they’re talking about how wealthy he is and try to put him up there with Tupac sorry he’s not Tupac yeah how much money he has he’s not on my top 10 on my top 20 on top 30 not smoke that ass back then 99 and still talking about him so not jiggling all that hell else better than jigga nothing better than chicken Rakim is better than Jenna they just told me how much money he has and I got makes a difference and we talk about Robin and all the people he don’t s*** out their money as well is as puffy they like to s*** people out of their money I’m saying that’s all that is Gina ain’t worth a s*** I never like that cat music and never will and he ain’t on my top nothing so they just blowing smoke up his ass cuz he got a lot of money holler if you hear me
Just because you’re a millionaire or billionaire we talk about music and I don’t know who you decided me Jay Z number one and he’s not smoked his ass in 99 Nas and took a long time to cover from that now that Tupac been dead for 25 years they won’t get this clown that’s wrong keen on it he ain’t nothing he can’t even touch pot big LL Rakim Raekwon any of the woo the Wu-Tang Clan you can’t touch none of them he is never going to be the King of New York y’all can blow smoke up jiggers ass all y’all want but he ain’t the King of New York and never will be I don’t listen to rap about 50 years it’s cloudy never been s*** just like puffy s******* people out of their money stealing from them so no he don’t get nothing except his money that’s it holler if you hear me the realest how if you hear me baby oh rap head over up here and oh it’s not to mention NWA with smoke Jigger too so yo it’s a lot of replica put him to sleep easily I mean it just blowing smoke up his ass they really gas him up that’s number one gas and him up there’s a lot I never thought of him as a lyricist and he’s not one he’s not on my list never was he ain’t never been the King of New York sorry keep blowing him up real real heads or his no music nobody listen to that commercial s*** Jay Z got going on trying to hear that commercial s*** they got going on trying to feel like s*** that’s all that is real heads cuz real old head old heads always baby holler if you hear me I’m out talking about f****** Jay Z’s number one not garbage even putting out he better in the park he ain’t better pop big or Nas definitely not better than Tupac the only getting the crown now because going 25 years Park he was scared of Tupac he was shook by Tupac same thing with puffy in his colony they were scared as f****** they were scared of Tupac that’s why they trying to give it to 25 years at the park that I’m going to try to get that clown Nas smoke jigger’s ass in 99 with that album call Ether that’s right Nas put his ass to sleep took that suck a long time to cover from that and now you’re trying to get a suck on him see what those big lips and get out of here man stop talking about that cloud Jay Z nobody trying to hear that s*** but Jay Z King of New York Jay Z and King of Nothing you know what my top 10 and I’m always an overhead peace might drop
AEOM WAS BETTER THAN RD HANDS DOWN..I GREW UP LISTENING TO PAC AND J, 2PAC’S
