JAY-Z’s Lawyers & Roc Nation Sued By Tony Buzbee’s Former Client

JAY-Z‘s legal issues surrounding his sexual assault case have gotten even more complex, as the lawyer for that case’s alleged victim, Tony Buzbee, is now involved in a new suit against both Roc Nation and JAY’s regular law firm Quinn Emanuel.

Last Friday (January 3), Buzbee’s former client Jose Maldonado, represented by Buzbee himself, filed a suit in Harris County, Texas District Court. It accuses, among others, Quinn Emanuel and Roc Nation of “engaging shadowy operatives to illegally seek out” former clients of Buzbee’s in order to “bring frivolous cases” against the attorney.

Buzbee is representing the anonymous woman who is accusing JAY-Z and Diddy of having raped her at a party following the 2000 Video Music Awards.

In the Harris County suit, the defendants are accused of offering Buzbee’s former clients as much as $10,000 to sue his firm.

This suit is only the latest in a series of legal claims filed back and forth between JAY, his lawyers, and Buzbee. Among these are an extortion lawsuit filed by Hov against Buzbee last November, a Harris County suit that Buzbee filed against Quinn Emanuel, and a suit filed last month against Roc Nation and Quinn Emanuel, also in Harris County, by a different former client of Buzbee’s, making similar claims to last Friday’s suit.

A Roc Nation spokesperson responded to the suit with a statement to HipHopDX:

“Rather than focus on suits by former clients for allegations of misconduct, Tony Buzbee is trying to distract with nonsense lawsuits — which of course Roc Nation has nothing to do with.

“Buzbee will have to answer for his failure to vet his Jane Doe plaintiff, while submitting her demonstrably false story to a court where he hasn’t even been admitted to practice, and subjecting the world to an NBC News interview disaster. The lies on the court will not survive scrutiny.”

In the sexual assault case, JAY was recently granted a minor victory when he was allowed to press forward with his latest motion to have the lawsuit dismissed.

Judge Analisa Torres granted a request on Thursday (January 2) from the rap legend and his legal team to be able to file a dismissal motion for the bombshell lawsuit, which accuses Hov of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside Diddy 25 years ago.

The request was opposed by the anonymous accuser’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, and the woman has until the end of February to file a counter.

JAY-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, had already laid out his argument for why the suit should be dismissed in an earlier filing, citing legal loopholes regarding the time and location of the alleged rape.

    1. Jay Z can’t say he doesn’t know guys or promote guys who violated 13 year old girls. He willingly worked with R Kelly even after Damon gave him the full story that she was not cool with the situation even if she got a couple records out of it

      1. So you’re saying nobody can work with a sexual assault victim? And are you saying that you’re quoting Damon Dash? The very same Damon Dash that was actually dating the very same assault victim that you just shook your finger at Jay Z for working with? Interesting concept.

      2. how many clown dope dealers who trafficked girls are these guys linked with – just stop it. no point in acting like these guys protected anybody all you can say is they aren’t child molesters from reputation. beyond that no one can say there’s industry people saying all kinds of stuff

      3. @Pro Name Good thing he’s not being sued for knowing or working with people then. Because you can’t sue people for that, in case you didn’t know. You can only sue people for WRONGDOING. Not for hanging around people who had yet to be convicted of WRONGDOING at the time.

    2. Kinda weird that an ex-client of some lawyer opened a case against someone in order to protect his own ex-lawyer from another case that he’s not involved in
