JAY-Z usually has no problem signing fans’ vinyl records when autograph seekers stake out his location, but there was one that forced him to pass recently.
The Hollywood Fix captured HOV leaving his NYC office Tuesday night (December 13) where he was greeted by a mob of people holding up vinyl album covers hoping to get the Brooklyn rap god’s signature.
Jay eventually obliged and signed a handful of vinyl records from his decorated discography such as The Blueprint, The Black Album, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 and more. One fan even broke out into some bars for JAY-Z — which he seemed to ignore.
The last album happened to be what Jay diagnosed as a bootleg and unauthorized project titled The Black Album Revisited, which the Roc Nation boss called out as being fake and didn’t sign. “That one ain’t even real,” Jay said to the embarrassed autograph seeker before walking back to his car.
The rap mogul has been blessing various people in different ways as of late. He recently granted the wish of another young adult who’s looking to continue their path to higher learning at the Roc Nation School of Music at Long Island University (LIU).
A student by the name of Samantha Samaka announced on Twitter that she’s received a $40,000 scholarship to attend the school, which had apparently been her dream. Samaka thanked HOV and his wife, Beyoncé, for the kind gesture while celebrating being the first Black woman from Toronto, Canada to enroll.
“THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MY TUITION BEING PAID,” she tweeted. “I LOVE @BEYONCE & JAY Z! HONORED TO BE THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN FROM TORONTO TO BE ACCEPTED INTO JAY Z’S SCHOOL OF MUSIC.”
According to her acceptance letter, Samaka — an aspiring singer and rapper — will be taking courses in the university’s Vocal Performance BM program in the Spring 2023 semester. She also received the $10,000 Excellence Award from the Roc Nation School.
According to the New York Post, the Brooklyn-bred billionaire has joined forces with SL Green and Caesars Entertainment in a bid to erect a swanky, boutique-style casino at 1515 Broadway office tower, which is already owned by SL Green, NYC’s largest commercial landlord.
As part of the partnership, JAY-Z and his team will oversee entertainment programming at 1515 Broadway, as well as at SL Green’s six other properties in Times Square.
Speaking of bootlegs. The Grey Album was way better than the revisited.
What a dick. Like the fan even knew ? It was a fucking vinyl record with a cover and all, not a white label CD sold in a barber shop. Ungreatful billiinaire. I woulda signed it.
Not much of a fan if he didn‘t know.
Vinyl is not like CDs. You cant press vinyl out of a garage and produce record covers on a home printer. If he brought it to meet Jay-Z and have him sign it, I truly believe he bought it from a store that sells legit records and he thought it was an offical limited edition DJ pressing. Autograph hunters are the biggest groupies of all time. I doubt he meant any disrespect.
Jay z acting like he never brought a bootleg on 125 in Harlem back in the day
The fan likely knew it wasnt a proper original studio version.. its producer Big Ghost Ltd’s “remix” version of the album. Definitely a big of a d-bag move for Jay to not sign it just because.
Man, that’s a dickhead move. I’d sign a bootleg all day. All because a fan doesn’t pay for something from someone worth hundreds of millions means you don’t value them as a fan? Everyone bootlegs music, or at least my generation, which grew up with limewire and other p2p services. A fans a fan. A fan spreads your music more than you can as an artist. Word of mouth is the way most people find new artists.
Get off the internet and take your fake ass album back and demand a refund…
Staged
It does look like a scene from Streets is Watching LOL
I wouldn’t sign something unlicensed with my name on it. Alot of you non-creatives wouldn’t understand tho. Its like signing something you had no part in creating.
Eh, I’d still sign it myself. It’s just a courtesy to the fan. Dudes worth over $500 million. If I was in his shoes, as a “creative” (I guess I’m a not creative) I would say “man, give me your address, this is counterfeit! I’ll send you a signed copy of my shit” and send him the whole cataolque signed and everything. That’s what someone who appreciates their fan would do. But JayZ is a very cocky, full of himself man who smells his own shit.
Thats not authentic, and that’s a very entitled point of view. I know if someone remixed my shit and self distributed it, i wouldn’t sign it as its not my project. The guy who remixed it should be signing that.
I have an entitled point of view for thinking a near billionaire should be more loving of his fans who keep him relevant? Okay lol. Maybe you’re right, but if I was in Jay’s position, I can promise if that happened, I’d again, get the fans address and send em a whole package of cool stuff autographed. Would’ve made for fantastic PR too.
Jay-Z has been a b-a-n since early days. The guy asking for the autograph was obviously a fan of his music. If you won’t sign something because you didn’t make a dollar out of it (despite having hundreds of millions) you must be a very unpleasant human being.
Glad he did not sign it. He shut down that behavior. He’s not a fan
Agreed. If you ever downloaded a song without paying for it, like limewire, or used ad block on YouTube to prevent artists from earning from your views, YOU ARE NOT A FAN!!! Also, I uses services to get free live TV… it means I’m not a fan of the shows I like, since I’m not giving up some money to some billionaires.
There’s a reason why my nigga Ye said he’s very selfish you have to be mentally inept to not know that about jay he’s a selfish cocky negro that’s all it is.I mean, don’t forget, he clowned biggie smalls years after his death and that’s the man who made him, what u think he gon do to a peasant fan
What an asshole! Snoop even signed my “dead man walking” cd
