JAY-Z‘s “Beach is Better” has been considered a modern Hip Hop classic, but producer Mike WiLL Made-It says that it was originally meant to be for Big Sean.

The record producer and rapper sat down with the All The Smoke podcast on Saturday (January 20). There, he revealed how theMagna Carta Holy Grail highlight was originally supposed to be for the “Best Mistake” rapper.

“Alright, so, ‘Beach is Better’ started off: Big Sean had ’10 to 10,'” he revealed. “He wanted a beat around ’10 to 10.’ So we had did a couple of beats around the a cappella voice note that he had. And ‘Beach is Better’ was one of them.”

He continued: “So my boy Mars had sent me a couple of options. And I was like, ‘Yo, man, this beat hard.'”

Mike WiLL Made-It then revealed that he’d included an ad-lib from Miley Cyrus on the beat before sending it off to Big Sean. Despite all that, it didn’t go over the way he’d thought it would. “We put the extra juice on this, this gotta be the one,” he concluded. “But I never heard from Big Sean. Then, the next week, I had a session with Hov, so I was locked in with Hov the whole week. And then, BOOM.”

Despite the song’s current exalted status, Mike WiLL Made-It isn’t resting on his laurels.

Back in November, Gucci Mane and B.G. teamed up with the A-list beatmaker to drop a new track, “Cold.”

Thinking ’bout them cold nights, sleeping in that cold cell/ Eating nothin’ but cold food, they let me out that cold jail/ Soon as I touched down I had to give them folks hell/ Took off all them jail clothes, showered off that jail smell,” Guwop raps on the hook, looking back at his own sentence behind bars, before B.G. hops in with a more fresh perspective.

And in August,  Lil Uzi Vert and J. Cole linked up with him for a new track titled “Blood Moon.”

Mike WiLL first teased the track by posting a short video on Instagram on Wednesday (August 16), which featured a cameo from the Dreamville leader, who co-produced the track.

The full song then arrived on August 17, with Uzi flexing about a girl who thinks of them as “Godzilla” and toying with a new flow over buoyant, speaker-rattling production.
