Jay Electronica Wanted “Control” For His Album, Calls Kendrick Lamar A Young God

Before Kendrick Lamar recorded his verse on “Control,” the song featured verses from Jay Electronica and Big Sean. When Sean decided to leave “Control” off of his album, Hall of Fame, Electronica wanted the track for his own release.

“It was me and Big Sean,” Electronica said in an interview with VIBE. “We had verses on there. Then when he told me it wasn’t on his album, I was going to use on my album. And then he told me the day before it came out, ‘Yo, Kendrick put a verse on there. We’re gonna put it out.’ I was like, ‘Go ahead. Go, go, go.’ But it’s a good thing. It’s a good thing for Hip Hop music because Hip Hop has been laying dormant for a long time. Peace to the young gods, Kendrick Lamar, TDE, Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Joey Bada$$. Peace to the young gods.”

Electronica has spoken about Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Control” in the past.

“When I heard that verse I was like ‘Man, I’m not about to go back and change my verse,’” Electronica said during an interview with Vibe.com. “That’s cheating. I could go back, change it. Make it this. I could namedrop. You know, I could do this. I could cut his verse up, but that ain’t the way of a OG. You know what I’m saying? That ain’t how Gs move. And I wanted to do that for the culture of Hip Hop. For the culture of Rap as opposed to myself. Like trying to protect myself.”

Jay Electronica also answered questions about the release date for his long-awaited album, reportedly titled Act II: Patents of Nobility.

“The album comes out on the day that it comes out,” he said.

      1. I guarentee you that once Electronica and Dr Dre release their albums, even dickriders will go, “Wait, That’s it?”

      2. no shit the albums can never live up to the hype they have created by these endless delays they are sure to be a disappointment

    1. Hey how do u guys like my rainbow sweater and pink scarf? Big Sean gave it to me last week at the masonic lodge!

      1. lol that is pretty funny, 40 year old nicca taking selfies with 2 scarves he bought from a homeless lady he saw on the street

    2. this article is ridiculous making out as if he called them “gods”. god is just a term five per centers use to refer to males. shocking “journalism”

    3. jay electricity looking hella cute in that pic! i wonder where he bought those super cute scarves and matching sweater

    4. Too bad it wasn’t on HOF. It would’ve increased sales. Epic fail on that one for real. I would’ve waited for the sample clearances knowing it was the hottest joint. And just as well Jay didn’t get it. Who knows if it would’ve come out. Waiting on his damn album. Detox anyone?

    5. If he were down with the culture he would of released an album a long time ago and contributed to it. Face it big sean and jay didn’t think kendrick had all those teen girl fans that spend money on artist they love. If they were hip hop fans they would have known what was going on in the streets.

    6. my classmate’s mother-in-law makes $77 hourly on the internet. She has been without work for seven months but last month her pay check was $13602 just working on the internet for a few hours. my link… www cafe44.com

Wayne has really been on a decline to the point now where he’s become a joke. People just laugh at him now. He thinks he’s coming with dope lines but he’s not. You just laugh at him. He really needs to hang it up.

    7. HHDX or who ever wrote this needs to check your sources. you quoted electronica speaking on the first time he heard kendricks verse with a whole paragraph of big seans out look. get the facts right before you post shit.
