Jay Electronica Says Nas “Never Has Or Will Never Need A Ghostwriter”

Several weeks ago, it was alleged that Jay Electronica and stic.man of dead prez ghostwrote significant portions of Nas’ Untitled album.

Now, Jay Electronica is vehemently denying those claims.

“Nas is one of the gods, one of the greatest of all time, one of the godfathers of even my own style,” said Jay in an interview with MTV’s RapFix.

The elusive emcee did acknowledge that he submitted something to the project, but disagrees that his contributions amounted to ghostwriting. “I met him on a humble submission and he is one of the greatest ever — he never has or never will need a ghostwriter. He’s legendary, his pen game is unquestionable; salute to Nas.”

“And all of the other bullshit, is just bullshit,” added Electronica.

    1. Back when Wayne was locked up, Birdman told us here at Cash Money headquarters that Nas reached out to ask Wayne to write some material for him. Wayne was willing to do it, but Nas wasn’t willing to pay as much money as Wayne wanted. Nas def uses ghostwriters. Nothing wrong with that, not everyone is as creative and gifted as Wayne and Drake. This is why YMCMB is the future and Nas & Jay-Z are the past.

      1. u really can’t be serious? Lil Wayne?I’m pretty sure if he did have ghostwriters lil wayne would be the last person to call lol his lines are very basic Nas is on a whole another level than everybody in the rap game currently other than Jay and Em…Nas Top 5 Dead or Alive he will never need a ghostwriter i seen in in studio twice and each time i seen him he had a pen and a notepad with mad rhymes he written

      2. Just like gillie da kid wrote for lil wayne best lyrical albums the first two carter albums how soon you forgot about that rumor

      3. You wish Nas had wanted Wayne to ghostwrite for him. If ymcmb is the future then the apocalypse is right around the corner…

      4. I’m starting to think these are just bloggers from hiphopdx.com who make these stupid fucking comments. I mean it’s just so dumb that I can’t believe someone would ever think that YMCMB is even remotely decent.

      5. The dumbest post ever! Dont know bout nas using writers but its a fact wayne that did and always has uses writers! (No rumor with gillie)

      6. You so Dumb for making such a comment Hater
        Nas dont need no Ghostwriters
and even if he did, a wack Lame called Lil Gayne would be like a scrape in the Bottom of the Barrel
He would be the last fool to go too

      7. YO “Dude you cant be fucking serious. Cash money headquarters ? really ? . You must be like 13 or something.”

        CO SIGH..?/\ /\

UR MOM GAVE ME HEAD-QUARTERS U DUMB FUCK…GO KILL YASELF. EITHER U THINK UR FUNNY OR A DICKTARD

    2. Yo, on the humble, Sauce Money told us that he wrote Jay-Z’s first 3 albums. Jay definitely uses ghostwriters. There’s nothing wrong with that

    3. Dude with the YMCB comment is obviously trolling. Its funny how all the haters were commenting on the article saying he uses ghost writers, and now prime suspect comes out with the truth and no1 has shit to say. People just love to hate

      1. Yeah, just cause the nigga said he didn’t doesn’t mean he actually didn’t. Shit my nigga, haven’t you learned anything from Politics and all these damn crackers like Mitt Romney? Motherfuckas lie if it benefits them. Especially if they are a person who gets lots of attention. Period. That’s the moral of the story. The only difference is that ghostwriting is a contractual agreement, where unlike politicians, ghostwriters cannot brag about their record of niggas who they have helped out.

Most likely, in Elec’s contract with nas, there were parameters that said ghostwriters have a gag placed on them concerning all creative involvements they had with an artist behind the scenes. Or in layman’s terms: In order for Jay Elec to get paid by Nas and his camp, it was a part of his terms to clam the fuck up if anybody were to ever bring up a ghostwriting rumor. Funny, because someone just did, and just as everyone was beginning to forget about it, Elec comes straight up out of the ether and says that he didn’t do shit. Even if he did, we were reaching a point where niggas were starting to not care anymore. Nas is Nas, Elec is Elec, and all that matters at the end of the day is whether or not their music is being enjoyed. Period.

    4. Jay Elec! Can’t wait for that album fams. And thanks for clarifying this for me, word! If there was any truth to the ghost-writing rumors, I wouldve lost mad respect for Nas and all of hip hop. Straight up and down. Nas, you need to talk to us b! We need to hear it from you.

    5. Of course Jay Electronic got his style from Nas. Every thing about him is borrowed, even his name is a play off Jay-Z. (Jay E/Jay Z). Dude is at least 40 and will always be underground and will never sign to a major. And his debut album is a myth, just like Detox. Now he’s saying he ghostwrote for Nas illmatic? This dude’s ego is way too fucking big. Illmatic is one of the greatest albums of all time and Jay Electronic (no buzz/hype) thought he’d get his name out there with that bullshit. He’s trying to act like one of the greats, but real greats like Nas & Jay-Z don’t fuck with him. I’m sick of hearing his name all the time but never hearing music. Name 5 songs this dude has out. You can’t because he’s still tryna eat off his 2 exhibit singles. Put out a mixtape, or an EP at least. SMH

      1. You must be the dumbest idiot hater off all times….go do youre research before you come with these false facts you dumb fuck!
        lol

      2. You just spewed a bunch of disinfo. He never said he wrote for Nas’ illmatic. How are you hearing his name all the time? I don’t get it.

      3. @JAY ELEC IS OVERRATED

Yeah, well I guess thats why Hov signed him to Rocnation almost two years ago, FUCKBOY! And as far as him acting like one of the greats, he’s probably the only “no name” artist that can get an unoquivocal co-sign from HOVA who said that he was on some “other shit” essentially (and mind you, Hovito says EVERYBODY’s shit is whack the first time around). So get the fuck out of here with your goddamned hearsay, considering you really have no idea what you’re talking about my nigga.

      4. lol…you just embarrassed yourself real bad, huh? The dude aint never gonna get signed by a major? He’s signed by Roc Nation. He got hype by claiming he ghostwrote for Nas? He’s denying that he ghostwrote for Nas. Jay Z and Nas don’t fuck with him? Jay Z signed him and Nas is always calling him the future of Hip Hop.

    6. Yall HipHop Dx writers need to let it go, leave the nigga alone, it’s official neither stic man or Jay had a hand on this so let it rest B.

    7. Nas will speak on it when it dies down completely, he’s using the chatter for promotion, you can see he doesn’t give a fuck. Rock The Bells was ill

    8. Yo true story!Nas is the truth, nastradumas,qb’s finest, godson, the streets desciple, the don….don’t fuck with Nasty Nas

      1. @IOB..You’re an idiot!

@Anonymous..Nas is not broke.Broke is when you don’t a pot to piss in,and a window to throw it out of.Nas is still sitting on millions.

    9. Jay Electronica iz just an old ass nigga. hiz muzik is outdated. it aint da 90s anymore bitchez. Nas and Jay Electronice should retire already. nobody wanna hear dem old ass niggaz. swag

      1. Dead that “this ain’t the 90’s”, “old ass nigga” rhetoric. Talent transcends eras. The 90’s was a hotbed of talent that birthed 100% of the content today. Too bad you new niggas missed the context. Oh well…what do you expect from actors, right?

    10. THIS DUMBASS IS RIGHT, IF HE EVER WROTE SOMETHING FOR NAS, EVERYBODY WOULD NOTICE, THIS DUDE IS WACK AND HE SUCKS, HIS LYRICS CAN’T BE EVER COMPARED TO NAS. THE ONLY ONE WHO EVER WAS CAPABLE ENOUGH TO GROSTWRITE ANY OF NAS SONGS IS WAKA FLOCKA FLAME.

      1. Haha, that’s a joke right… not the part about Nas not needing a ghost, but the claim of who would be capable?!

        That was a joke yeah?

    11. People bring in artists to vibe with and come up with stuff all the time. Elec and stic.man didn’t “write” for Nas but they helped the process. Even Jay-Z keeps certain people around him to help out, ask Q-tip.

      1. co sign..

funny how ppl complain about the mere idea of a ghostwriter for NAS.. but nobody cares that mostr rap lyrics have about 3 wordfs in them now adays…

rick ross – hold me back, hold me back, hold me back…

id much rather have substance and the rumor of a ghostwriter than a nonsense bs bubblegum rap track.

salute to the real suibstance dropping cats in the game. keep your creative partners close! makes for quality work.

    12. This was a Sad weekend in black history…two of the most successful rapers in hip hop history did a festival less than 100 miles from each other that’s some real Divide and conquer shit .instead of strengthening the hip hop genre they do a separate show…..willie lynch is still in the minds of many in 2012…this is a sad day in hip hip history….kanye and jay should of been headlining at rock the bells not doing shows with pearl jam!!!!! if you understand black history you will know where I am coming from Jay is the one of the greatest of all time..but that doesn’t mean hes not a Uncle Tom, Sambo of our time Sammy Davis Jr…

    13. Nas got like 10+ albums and you thirsty hatin niggas wanna call out one verse and say he got a a ghostwriter. SMH @ you lames.

      1. Well, Queens Get The Money was by far the best Nas verse since 2001, so yes, it’s more than believable that Jay wrote it.

    14. There is no smoke without fire, I still am of the opinion that some ghostwriting when down. Being a hip hop head I know how hard it is to accept such a story, reasons for the denial of most fans out here.
But somewhere deep down I have the feeling that some shit went down, listen to the untitle album keenly, and compare the lyrics to conventional Nas material…something does not fit in somehow.

I was not in the studio when shit went down and I CANT say for certain, I cant even knock off Nas legendary status off of a Ghost writing imput but the way Jay and stic man denied the issue again and again is smoking mirrows.

      1. “MF DOOM: [Nas is] my brother. Thats my brother. My other brother from another mother. Thats all I could say. This nigga got a lot of shit going on. We got some work done, but we aint record it. He would freestyle and have fun and shit. We should have recorded some of the freestyles this nigga did. He did one freestyle over this beat that I got, this Special Herbs beat that nobody used yet, right? The nigga ripped the whole shit from beginning to end. Thats how you know whos really nice. The mothafuckas nasty. Certain cats just have a natural knack for it. Nas is nice. That niggas nasty, matter of fact. I said that niggas nice? Hes not nice, hes nasty. I dont know if Im gonna rhyme with him [laughing] but Ill be doing some production shit, more or less. That niggas too crazy. He could go off the top too ill. Thats what its about.”

^ there’s a such thing as “blowing smoke where there’s no fire” and that’s what you’re doing.

Three emcees who have recorded with him say no. You, who even admit you weren’t there have a lot to say about it. Have a nice day.

      2. and when I say record, it means actually being in the studio passing around ideas and concepts, not striping an actual song.

      3. As u rightly said, i was not in the session when shit went down. Maybe I am wrong, but in an industry where truth is an indangered specie, i choose to have my doubts and I do respect your opinion.

    15. diz nigga aint real hip hop. swag

Check out ma new single bitches. Im da best rapper alive. swag:

      soundcloud (dot) com/so-icy-boi/so-icy-boi-ladies-feat-so-icy

So Icy Boi! – Ladies (feat. So Icy Mob & ?uestlove)

      1. He’s not real Hip Hop?!? With a name like ‘So Icy Boi’ you have no right to say some stupidness like that. End of conversation. Won’t even waste time to listen to your single, after saying something that is illogical. Your judgement is off. Way off. That’s your new rapper name. ‘Way Off boi’

      2. lmao this clown so icy i actually listend to your single and your just a wanna be big krit/big boi you geechy clone nd that pokemon punchline was preschool quality bruh bruh you aint even worth the proper grammar

    16. Y’all have no idea do you? Jay Elec still hasn’t denied that he’s ghostwritten for Nas. He keeps beating round the bush. ‘Nas is dope, he has never and will never need a ghostwriter”, nobody said he NEEDS a ghostwriter, just that he has used one from time to time. Jay E still hasn’t said directly ‘I have never ghostwritten for Nas’.

    17. Funny that in defending Nas in his ghostwriting allegation, he is speaking for Nas right now. Isn’t that what ghostwriters do?

    18. fuck no nast nas needs no fucking ghostwriter, even though jay elect is my fav rapper right now, i know he didnt write shit for him,, thats his idle and shit lol… disappointed hes doing a single with crhris brown though lol 🙁

    19. I don’t really even know why there is conspiracy/arguments over this. Did you guys not read the writing credits for his new cd? I, personally, was embarrassed when I read how many people contributed. I mean, dude needed 6 other writers to write a song about his own daughter. WTF?

Are they still “ghostwriters” when they’re listed blatantly as contributing to the writing? Or does that somehow make it better? He DOESN’T write everything he raps about. Period.

      1. Stop crying, even the maestro Barry White and super composer Stevie Wonder had contributors on albums. You sound like a crooked cop desperate to plant a smoking gun because you don’t want to change the paperwork IAB read.

      2. HAHAHAHAH U DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT MUSIC U POOR SOUL…FIRST OF ALL AT LEAST READ THE NAMES, 2 OF THEM IS NAS AND NO ID…THE OTHER PPL HELPED COMPOSE THE SONG, WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT WRITERS IN THE CREDITS AINT JUST WRITING LYRICS DUMMY
