Janelle Monáe has long dressed up like the so-called “Monopoly Man,” but now, she’s got a whole new look that’s got the internet buzzing.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday (May 11), the “Dance Apocalyptic” singer donned some black-and-white booty shorts with a cut-off white T-shirt that read “Pleasure” across the breasts.

In a move that invoked the spirit of model Sintra Arunte-Bronte, Monáe soaked herself in the pool before slowly emerging, dripping as she went along.

“Lipstick Lover” is the first single off of Janelle Monáe’s album, The Age of Pleasure, which is set to arrive on June 9. Produced as part of a joint venture with Wondaland Arts Society and Atlantic Records, The Age of Pleasure is Monáe’s first full-length album since 2018’s Dirty Computer.
But because the “Lipstick Lover” visual treatment — directed by Monáe and Alan Ferguson — has a bit of nudity in it, it’s an age-restricted video.
Like Arunte-Bronte, Janelle Monáe credits the good people of Jamaica for her slamming body — in a manner of speaking. When asked what her secrets are to obtaining a body like hers while on the Met Gala red carpet earlier this month, Monáe credited “Jamaican food…and sex.”
For those who can’t wait to see Janelle Monáe live, the upcoming Outside Lands Festival — where she’ll be joined by Kendrick Lamar as a headliner — in San Francisco should whet their appetite.

Some of the acts joining Kung Fu Kenny and the Glass Onion star include Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Yachty, J.I.D., and Mariah The Scientist. The music and arts festival will take place from August 11-13 at the Golden Gate Park in San Fransisco.
As expected, the fan reactions to Monáe’s video teaser ranged from gobsmacked to shocked. “Janelle Monáe makes me question how straight I really am,” wrote one woman, while another added: “No more tuxedos for you!”
