The Jamie Foxx-produced Luther Vandross documentary, Never Too Much, has found a home at CNN Films and OWN, who will be broadcasting the documentary in 2025.
IndieWire revealed that the acquisition was completed on Wednesday (May 15) after the film debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Though an official premiere date has not yet been set, the outlet confirms that Never Too Much will go to the Max streaming platform after its debut on CNN Films and OWN.

“I’m thrilled to partner again with CNN Films and OWN to bring this film to audiences,” director Dawn Porter said in a statement to the outlet. “Luther’s music is timeless, his legacy is unsurpassed, and we can’t wait for all of his fans new and old to experience his brilliance.”
Foxx’s Foxhole Productions is listed as one of the production companies on the film, alongside Raindog Films, and in association with Trilogy Films.

The Oscar winner’s participation in the film was first announced back in July 2023.
Foxx — through his entertainment company Foxxhole Productions and Colin Firth’s Raindog Films — will be producing the film while Dawn Porter will serve as director. Sony Music Entertainment’s (SME) Premium Content Division, and Sony Music Publishing will be involved as well.

“Luther is one of our G.O.A.T.s,” Foxx said in a statement at the time. “He’s one of the greatest singers in the history of music. It is truly an honor to be a part of the team to help bring this incredible story to the masses.”
“Like so many, I have always loved Luther’s music, but I had no idea of the breadth and scope of his artistry,” said Porter, according to the outlet. “I think people will be surprised at how much he accomplished in his tragically short life. It is a joy to be able to share his true story.”
Luther Vandross was one of the greatest R&B singers in music history. The eight-time Grammy Award winner is best known for his iconic records such as, “Never Too Much,” “Here and Now,” and “Dance With My Father.”

His music has been sampled throughout Hip Hop, most famously by Kanye West and Twista on 2004’s “Slow Jamz.”
