Ja Rule has angered some fans of female rap following his comments regarding Nicki Minaj’s place within Hip Hop and the amount of competition she’s faced.
The “Mesmerize” rapper recently sat down with The Shade Room where he ruffled some feathers when speaking about his belief surrounding the lack of superstar women rappers in the Nicki Minaj era of dominance.
“I think Nicki gets proper praise,” began. “Her place in the game is solidified. It’s solid. There were no female MCs out and about until Nicki came back out. Before her, the last one was like Lauryn Hill.”
Although, Ja has credited Nicki for opening the door for the current generation of female rappers to have a run “like they’ve never had before” in Hip Hop.
“And before her was like Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte and before her it’s even further back,” he continued. “The female MC — they’re having a run like they’ve never had before. To me, in my opinion, Nicki reopened that door.”
Some fans chimed in defending rappers who Ja Rule left out like Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Missy Elliott, Trina, Eve and more.
“So we just gonna skip over what Lil’ Kim & Foxy did for the culture. These ladies changed the game and it hasn’t been the same since. In terms of impact, Lil’ Kim & Foxy is it. The rest have been duplications,” one person wrote on Instagram.
While another added: “Eve deserves her roses if anything because in her prime Eve done so much from music to her own Tv show etc.”
Meanwhile, Latto appeared to take shots at Nicki Minaj while performing an unreleased song at Coachella over the weekend.
Latto spit: “Bitches acting like they running shit, they really ran through” and “She thought I would kiss her ass, she mustn’t have took her meds.”
At the end of the track, Latto had more words for her unnamed rival, rapping: “Say she got a problem, imaginary smoke/ Bitch, you said it’s up, then put on the floor.”
She then concluded: “Pussy ho… Let a bitch know, we tired of the subtweets this year.”
“Who gives a fuck what Ja Rule thinks at a time like this?”

Ja has a point, he does miss on adding Missy to that list. but between the time Eve/missy was considered hot there was a gap right there untill Nicki came out. I just never thought Trina was a top rapper. Ja is saying what he’s thinking, people getting mad when people say their opinion and it’s not exactly their same opinion
