J. Cole Shares Disappointment After Finding Jay-Z Didn’t Actually Tell Publications Album Was Classic

Recently, a headline in several articles in many different publications noted that Jay-Z declared J. Cole’s debut album a classic. When J. Cole was asked about this during a recent interview with AllHipHop, he responded by sharing his disappointment after reading the article and seeing that Jay-Z never actually told a publication that. Instead, the story came from Cole’s statements about what he’s heard from others about Jay-Z’s reaction to the album. He clarified the misunderstanding.

“When I saw the headline, I got happy. I was like, ‘Jay said my album’s a classic!’ And then I read it and it was like, (hits forehead with his palm).”

He went on to explain where the story came from.

“The story comes from me telling someone what I was told about what [Jay-Z] said. You know what I’m saying? It’s not like he did an interview and said it. But if you ask him, I’m sure he’ll probably tell you the same thing. But, it was so weird to see that headline.”

When asked how he felt when he initially read the headlines, he said he felt proud.

“When I heard that, I got really proud. It was cool. Imagine, it’s that nod of approval or that confirmation.”

The J. Cole/Jay-Z dynamic has been a topic of other discussions of late. The Jay-Z verse is also something J. Cole is waiting on, as he told HipHopDX’s own, Kathy Iandoli in a recent interview with DX

“Your guess is as good as mine if we’re gonna get a Jay-Z verse,” he told DX.

    1. Album probably gonna be sick . a classic is hard to come by in the age of disposable music. attention span is about 2 weeks then “on to the next one”

      1. EXACTLY how I feel about most of these albums nowadays. It might be great, but a true classic has to be timeless.

    2. To call an album a classic in this day and age is to put it with Doggystyle, Chronic, Reasonable doubt, Ready to Die, Blueprint. ATLiens, or any outkast album, and Illmatic.

      So we’ll wait and see.

      1. What about Fear of a Black Planet, The Low End Theory, Paid in Full, 3 Feet High and Rising, Mecca and the Soul Brother? When it comes to naming classics and giving respect, people on this site are incredibly nearsited.

    3. smfh Cole needs to stfu, the more he opens his mouth the more he sounds like a herb! just do YOU homie, your first impression is your only!

    4. Since we are on the subject of “True” classics” here are a few:

      1. Paid in Full
      2. It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back
      3. Illmatic
      4. The Chronic
      5. Enter the Wu
      6. Ready to Die
      7. Doggystlye
      8. The Low End Theory
      9. Aquemini
      10. Me Against the World
      10B.Reasonable Doubt
      10c. Death Certificate

      1. I think Below the Heavens (BLu & EXile) should be up there in that list:p idc if it’s 11, it was def a classic

      2. Thats a good list. Obviously there’s some that I think HAVE to be on there though. “The Infamous”, “Only Built for Cuban Linx”, “Its a Big Daddy Thing”, and “It Was Written”, to name a few.

      3. This nigga said Ferrari Boys is right there lmao
Cant leave out College Dropout! or Marshall Mathers LP!

      4. I would swap out Low End Theory with midnight marauders and put reasonable doubt and me against the world slightly higher but a solid list nevertheless

    5. Only built 4 cuban linx is better than what everyone has mentioned apart from Illmatic which is on same level

    6. this guy is startin’ ta be on Jay’s nuts more than Kanye…who cares what he thinks about your shit. Nigga doesn’t think enough of it to give you a verse anytime soon…how does it feel to be indie on a major label, cuz Roc Nation ain’t done nuthin’ for you other than shout your name out.

      1. i mean, keep your mouth shut. if your album classic, cool, time will tell. but you just look like a child talking like this. keep your composure.

    7. Oh my lord, rappers these days are such little BITCHES. “Boo-hoo, Jay doesn’t think my album is a classic”, Nore – “Boo-hoo, Pharell didn’t show me enough love at my video shoot”, Lil Wayne – “Boo-hoo, Dwanye Wade and Lebron didn’t give me special attention when I went to see their game”. Yo, you remember back when rappers were actually GROWN MEN? That shit was dope.

      1. I guess Cole might have had a sneaky plan and thought that his Cole World album could get released ASAP by having someone publish that fabricated poor excuse of a statement that Jay didn’t make. Again you should just leave Roc Nation and do your own movement J.Cole. Stop showing desparation for Jay while he sits back and lets you Watch The Throne that him and Kanye think they are supposedly on for some odd reason.

      2. I remember the same story from like 6 months ago. some fanboy just dug it up again out of desperation for attention towards the album.

And to cole’s defense he was asked the question and had the decency to clarify the statement. he could have just ran with it and nobody would have ever known. probably not a classic but much respect for telling the truth.

I knew something was fishy when it wasn’t a direct quote. That “he said that he said” shit never pans out.

      3. Did you not watch the interview? He wasn’t sad at that? He was let down because he was misled by a title of an article

    8. And by the way…this nigga is really not THAT nice. He’s just gassed beyond belief, like all these new niggas. The internet has changed shit because now they can go on-line at anytime and see thousands of people on their pipe. These niggas are egomaniacs and don’t have the firepower to match it.

      1. Sensaye252 what’s your MC name I’ll look you up & tell you how nice you are. J Cole goes so if you got to get on here to hate on how gassed he is why don’t you have thousands in your pipe? Before the roc or jay, I always been a fan of Cole.. I relate to his shit, maybe you don’t but you probably don’t even listen to the cats you hate on.. obviously it’s someone else with the EGO problem.. I’ll see you on your tracks.. On3

    9. So…if you actually pay attention he’s disappointed in the way that the online media runs with a “story”. Because he didn’t actually here Jay say it, someone else allegedly heard it…told Cole and then Cole in turn tells someone else.

You would face-palm too if you read a article thinking one thing and find out the headline doesn’t match the actual story. Kind of like this one.

The other thing is…how is Cole riding Jay’s nuts?!? Jay signed him. Wouldn’t you be happy if your boss was pleased with the work that you do? Does that mean you are riding your boss’s nuts because you feel good that your work is appreciated?

    10. I think cole is a classic case of too much media hurting your career. STOP TALKING! When someone asks you about jay you should say “next question” or give a brief shout out and end it there. I feel like dude is really hurting himself with all these interviews.

      1. I don’t think its too much media…I don’t think he’s getting enough media. He just not getting the RIGHT kind of media.

    11. dude only got 13 songs so people wont look it as a classic unless he drops 17 songs and every one of them is great

      1. Yea boo calm down on the track count you must be a baby or something not been around long that shiz cycles, trends like everything else does.. we actually goin back to less tracks in the game now. Ya dig?

    12. I’m an Mc in my own right…I’m not waiting here for Jay Z to tell me if I have a classic!

Is it a CLASSIC or NOT, JAY COLE?

    13. Jay-Z’s a bitch. His label is shit. J.Cole aint getting his proper shine being stuck with them. He needs to get out & do his own shit like when Curren$y left Young Money.

    14. it ain’t dick ridin its just a good way to promote yourself. jay z could have as many number 1 albums as he wants who the fuck else can do that. his swag is entertaining people never get tired of him bragging about himself haha. hyping himself up to be more than he is haha it never gets old he realizes that and don’t blame him for dropping jay’s name to keep him in the spotlight.

    15. Firt off people OVERUSE the word “Classic” these days. How do you call a album a classic before it even comes out for consumer consupmtion anyways? You have to let things stand the test of time and become timeless….That means 20-30 years from now it will still sound new and relevant. Like Michael Jacksons “Thriller….my 2 year old loves that album…as well as 20–30–40 50 year olds and older. You see how many generations that album has touched?. THAT IS A CLASSIC!. HOW the fuck do these niggas call they albums a classic and they barely got a release date? Or they call they albums classic and its only been out for 2 months. People are so quick to give things classic..without letting it stand the test of time.

Second of all…i hate to say it…I get the feeling Jay-z and or the staff at Roc Nation, is NOT giving J.Cole the proper promotion or attention. It takes more than Good music to sell GOOD MUSCIC. I see no visible marketing plan for this dude. THIS IS EVIDENCE OF A LACK OR ARTISt DEVELOPEMENT IN THE INDUSTRY. A long lost art or craft. I don’t give a fuck what Jay-z says…THERE IS NO EXECUSE FOR THIS. J.Cole needs to be getting better promoitin. Hell put togheter a mini documentary for the nigga or something. I know he wants his artist to stand on they own 2 feet..thats fine…but don’t watch them drown either with no clear direction. SET UP INTERVIEWS AND GIVE THIS NIGGA TALKING POINTS. Does he have a publicist? Probably not.

J.Coles music is lacking something in my opionion. He has the raw talent..but he still needs guidance and coaching. HE needs that EXECUTIVE PRODUCER or VISONARY to oversee his project. Like he needs a Dre to his Snoop, a Quincy Jones to his Michael Jackson, a Dre to his Eminem. I feel J.Cole needs that for his debut album. I just dont’ since he is getting that. If Jay-z should have least Found one main PRODUCER to oversee J.Coles album. Cause Jay-z aint doin it…he is to busy pushing “Whatch The Throne”. I get the feeling Jay-z regrets signing J.Cole, Now he’s stuck with him. For awhile at least.

      1. Yo everything you said is real. Except the last part.. ‘jayz regrets signing’ Na that’s just how he do it. He don’t regret signing him.. he did it on purpose.’ Watch the way it pans out & you’ll see what I mean.. In the meantime you are on point everything else is true.. But I believe Cole will make it happen on his own cause he’s real & he’s hot & he’s not like the real GOOD music trying to create the next Drake (whack ass concepts).. Cole World. On3

    16. #1: I wish people would stop calling albums that are relatively new or haven’t even dropped yet “classic”. That label has to be earned over time, not given to an album because that artist is hot at the moment (Illmatic & Reasonable Doubt earned those titles, they weren’t given to them soon as the albums dropped).

#2: Why should he need Jay or any other major name artist for that matter to tell him whether or not his own album is hot? How about just having faith in your own product & talent & putting out the best music you can? Stories like this reminds me of why I don’t check for too many mainstream hip hop artists these days.

      1. Yo he never said he needed Jay on the album.. get over yourself. He never said he needed jay’s approval.. if you ever had a mentor or came up you would know what it was like to feel proud & want to show them what you did. Either you never had parents that cared about you, you’ve never done anything great, or you just straight have no feelings. Stop hatin on Cole & get back to work. On3

    17. J Cole doesn’t give good interviews. He needs to shut up talking to the media and just rap, because he is ruining his credibility.

    18. Cant wait for the album but they need to open their communication lines lol, there ain’t that many people on the label damn Hov.

    19. Lol, and a bunch of idiots were commenting like Jay-z really said it when the article clearly said his manager only told Jay-z it was classic.

Yall kids need to learn how to read more than a headline.

    20. why is he waitin for a hov verse? hov is fuckin garbage since black album. why is everyone on hov’s dick? cole would rap circles round that camel lookin ass

    21. I BET YOU ANYTHING HIS ALBUM WILL STILL BE A CLASSIC.. AT LEAST TO ME ANYWAY.. I THINK IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER IF JAY GETS ON THE ALBUM OR NOT COLE HAS A REAL TALENT WHEN IT COMES TO THIS RAP SHIT.. SO KEEP IT UP MANE!! AND IM COMING TO YOUR SHOW IN ORLANDO ON SEPTEMBER 10th!! LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT AND IM GETTING YOUR ALBUM 2 ON THE 27th!! COLE WORLD NIGGA!!

    22. MOVE ON COLE WAITING ON JAY IS LIKE THE LOX WAITING ON PUFF TO DO SOMETHING FOR THEM YOU SAID IT BEST … JAY PUT A STAMP ON A NIGGA BUT WOULDN’T MAIL EM !

    23. Fuck Jigga dog, you need this nigga approval to know your albums a classic or not? No you dont my nigga, the streets will anoint it a classic, luike they always do. men lie, women lie, the streets dont.

      1. I copped Illmatic the day it came out and said it was classic after 3 listens, New York went insane for it and literally everyone who heared it called it classic too.

      2. you can predict that something will be a future classic. but you can’t call something an classic after 3 listens. you sound retarded. classic as a word implies age.

      3. Actually people as missing the definition of classic. Classic is when something is considered to be of the highest quality or lasting value or to be definitive. Of course, a classic holds more wait after time because its PROVED to be lasting and definitive in the arts, but something can in fact be branded an instant classic. It didn’t take 14 years for people to recognize the quality of illmatic. It was classic then and its classic now.

      4. Not 14 for sure. When it dropped, Illmatic was already called an instant classic. And even now, people agree that it is the greatest hip hop album ever made.

      1. Yeah right…I don’t care if you’re a Jay fan or not, Jay would roast that kid. Stop actin’ like Jay’s not a deadly MC just ’cause you don’t like him as a person.

      2. co sign sensaye. i hate you new jacks who judge music based off of a rapper personality and religion. lol fuck off.

    24. Remember what Kanye said about Jay-Z in “big brother”? How Jay used to front on Kanye like crazy? Like I said b4, Jay is a fame leech. He will only stand beside you when he can gain something from it (Fame) The only artists jay signed that he’s close to are the ones who became big stars….Which is why he wants to be best friends with Kanye now. He needs people like this to keep it going and without them his career would have been done!

Even before he was signing people up he was leeching off others. Like Nas said in Ether, “went from Jaz [O] to hanging with [Big Daddy] Kane to Irv [Gotti] to [Notorious] Big. He hangs with dudes then leaves them high and dry after he gets what he wants. He tried to do the same think to Nas himself when he came into the game, but Nas didn’t fall for it and shunned him (Which is the real reason for the Nas/Jay-Z beef)

Believe me, if J Cole blows up and turns into a huge artist he will get Jay-Z on whatever he wants any time he wants because Jay will have someone to leech from and stretch his career. If Cole doesn’t, he will become another State Property member with a non existent career. He loses either way…. Cole’s best bet is to drop this album then switch labels….But he probably wont do that because he seems to be in love with Jay… I wish he would open his eyes though. If that dude had told me “I don’t want to hear that shit.” when I first gave him my music I would have never signed to him later on…. In fact I prob would have snuffed him if he tried to  friend me up and sign because of my buzz. Signing with this guy was a dumb idea in the first place….

      1. 100 % truth right here. That’s business though I guess. Jay and Kanye’s friendship comes off as forced or fake to me. Jay at his peak(around Black Album) woulda laughed at the suggestion of doing an album with Kanye. But look now. Kanye is clearly the bigger star, and now we have Watch The Throne.

      2. jay said “i dont want this” not “i dont want to hear that shit”. You make it sound like jay was just being an asshole. Cole blind sided him on the way to a meeting. you twisted that story.

      3. there is so much ignorance in your comment that its not even funny.

” The only artists jay signed that he’s close to are the ones who became big stars. ”

when did Memphis Bleek become a star ?????? Oh, i cant mention him because it puts a big ass hole in your argument.

“He needs people like this to keep it going and without them his career would have been done! ”

this would make sense if Kayne and Jay Z had actually worked together alot. how many songs do jay Z and Kanye west actually have together besides WTT. Its 3, thats right 3, not counting remixes. how many beats has Kanye produced for him, its like 15, over the last 5 albums.

thats 15 out of the last 60 songs, and only 1 of those Kanye produced songs was a single, so how exactly does Jay Z nee kanye to keep himself relevant ?

people like you see them as close friends and never actually look at their music , you just ASSUME, that they work together alot and they really dont.

” Even before he was signing people up he was leeching off others. Like Nas said in Ether, “went from Jaz [O] to hanging with [Big Daddy] Kane to Irv [Gotti] to [Notorious] Big. He hangs with dudes then leaves them high and dry after he gets what he wants ”

again, you are so wrong here. he tried to sign Jaz O to Rocafella, Jaz said Jay Z was crazy if he thought Jaz was going to sign with Dame and his shady business. So Jaz is the one who distanced himself, not Jay Z

        Biggie died

Jay Z was Kane’s hype man, that was his job, he signed his own deal so he obviously couldnt be some one elses hype man after that genius

Jay Z never abandoned Irv either. Irv and Jay Z have never had bad words with each others.

” He tried to do the same think to Nas himself when he came into the game, but Nas didn’t fall for it and shunned him (Which is the real reason for the Nas/Jay-Z beef) ”

ok, everything else you said was just stuff you didnt know, or misunderstood, but that line right there is some shit you made up just to try and strengthen your argument. That’s sad, and it makes you look like a bitch, real talk.

i wont even bother with the rest of your stupidity. thats a mix of you fucking up about 4 quotes and mixing in your own opinion.

      4. @dsjj, u just wrote an essay without saying nada. D dudes line abt Nas is quite logical, what u think was responsible for jays infatuation with Nas? cos Nas refused to be leached on by him.

    25. He’s letting this Jay issue tarnish the build up for his album, no matter what people are only gonna moan now, he gets the verse then people will say he spent too much time waiting on it, he doesn’t get it then people will say the album is missing something.

    26. This dude is in Inspector Gadget self-destruct mode. Lol. That was the most pathetic groupie type shit I ever heard from an artist. How can anybody blame Jay-Z for what is happening to this guy’s image? Kinda difficult to look like a don with your foot constantly in your own mouth. Just shut up…if it’s not already too late.

    27. Kinda funny this site used a headline very similar to what this article is about. After reading the initial article I was sort of wondering why any decent publication would have one of their main stories be based on hear-say. Now these sites that reported that garbage in the first place, such as this site, turn around and make it look like Cole is crazy.

    28. J. Cole needs to face facts: He’s NOT saying anything is his music! You don’t need Jay-Z, the media or any executives to tell you that. NO spins, no singles, NOT even any decent regular tracks that’ll make me say this is nice! Just the same BS, talking ’bout chains, chicks & whips! I tried listening to this dude, but he brings NOTHING new to the table! Also, he’s SUPER-WACK for begging a collabo with J! Have some success on your own first before you want to ride with the big-dogs!

      1. I can tell you only heard his recent singles, ‘Work Out’ and the one with Trey Songz. A lot of people are going to be laughing at your ignorant post. Go listen to his earlier shit, ‘The Warm Up’ and ‘Friday Night Lights’.

Matter fact, go listen to ‘Killers’ from J Cole and then tell me dude is about whips and chains and rims. I know that single ‘Work Out’ is pretty wack, I’m a fan of J Cole and I can admit that, but dude has to put out that type of single, that’s just how it is.

U the type of nigga I just wanna sit down with and educate. I would love to show you song after song and change ur mind but thats on u

      2. If you didn’t know dumbass that Cole is signed to Jay’s label. OF COURSE he would want a guest verse from his own boss. Didn’t Bleek get one? Didn’t Sigel get one? They never became successful outside of being Jay’s associates yet Jay still gave them a verse. Even Saigon who was never even signed to Jay’s label got a verse for his debut album.

“Chains, Chicks, Whips?” It’s a RADIO SINGLE DUMBASS. You have to talk about the regular BS in order to get played. Go listen to his mixtapes. You have no fucking clue about Cole.

      3. You must be trolling, because this is one of the realest guys in the game. Guessing you’ve never heard the Warm Up or Friday Night Lights or the Come Up

    29. OK LOOK dude, when your songs are posted and we listen to them THATS what’s going to determine how HOT you are. PERIOD! What’s next, Obama made you flop?

How many of you rappers would kill for his opportunity?

    30. For real yawl need to shut the fuck up about Jay Z! Jay FEEDS these ungrateful niggas and the ONLY FUCKING THING they have to do is record an album! And they can barely do it. Cole spits, yeah we all know that but dawg is delusional if he thinks his radio joints are hot, they are NORMAL ass hell!

Look at Game, 50 Cent made that bitches shit hot otherwise it would of been some 10,000 bars of random imitations of other rappers flows. That’s my word.

Lil Wayne put mixtape after mixtape out and everyone of those bitches was hot to def. He claimed he was the best and made Jay pay attention. Next thing you know Wayne explodes AND gets the Jay Z feature. It’s call WORKING your ass off not “Oh Jay please hold my hand”.

Rhianna blew up. Drake blew up. Nikkie blew up. Rick Ross had to over come the C.O. shit and 50 Cent attacks but he caking now.

I don’t want to hear shit about what Jay not doing. He’s doing fucking plenty you bitchmade niggas. Ask Beans.

You new school cats SUCK! That’s not Jay’s fault, you just fucking SUCK.

    31. Jay Cole is a nerd, that’s his real problem. I don’t believe a thing he says when he raps about his swag. Nigga please, that’s not your lane.

    32. Nah man guy!! wtf Cole aint no chains and boasting about material shit!! the dude is real..that guy should just shut the fuck up!!!COLE IS HARD AND REALLY PAINTS PICTURES WITH WORDS..WHY DO U THINK JAY Z IS FUXIN WIT HIM????????

    33. Dogshit “label” with DIPSHIT artists… only one person Jay cares about and his last name ain’t Cole.

Remember when clowns thought Jay Elecontrica was worth a fucking damn?

I have ZERO use for Shawn Carter but Cole is just as ass for ever thinking it’d be otherwise.

    34. Peeps blaming Jay have that broke ass handout attitude.,, Jay-z is a brand name. Like Oprah,. when they sign off on something or give something a pound it causes an immediate stirr,.. he gave all those dudes on ROC a chance , an opportunity,. he co-signed them,. thats enuff,. what more shoudla dude do dang..ya’ll want jay to gather deez dudes at a table and hand them a case of money , negro please…

      1. People deff love a reason to hate but you dont think its a little cold that he hasn’t done his verse for dudes cd yet and might not. I meen to be expecting a hand out would be to expect something thats alot or aleast a real favor. After signing dude and hyping him up so much a verse aint much to expect. To many rappers hop on there little homies cd’s. Honestly to me between how good j cole and jay electronica are he’s like suge knight status fuckin with their careers.

    35. I hate this ”OMFG, he’s not bragging about jewels and money, he’s one of the best to ever do it!”

    36. On another level, on another plane already
H-O-V, I got my own lane, already (already)
..I done cooked up “The Roc” already
So why the fuck can’t y’all get hot already? (already)
Put your name in the pot already
Niggas compare me with Biggie & ‘Pac already (already)

    37. How could you expect to have a classic with that weak single.

How can anyone say any album is a classic with out it being at least two years old. At least.

If your still playing it two years later like you did Illmatic, All Eyez on Me, The Chronic. Then you will know you have a classic.

      1. Jay is shit now. You’re crazy if you don’t think so. Cole > Jay right now, but obviously Jay is better than him career wise

      2. Jay fell of bad but he’s still alright.. J Cole is better now and I’m not even that much of a fan of Cole’s.

      3. yup, watch the throne sells only this good because of kanye!!!! wish he wouldn’t have waisted his time with dis ugly nigga and a his own album!!!!!!!!!!!!

    38. This is sad. Not even a week has passed and he was bragging about this crap.

I really don’t understand how someone can be so stupid to air his own dirty laundry and shortcomings out like this and still have fans. Its not like a respectable artist being transparent about his weaknesses or fears.

This guy is like a toddler with a mega phone. Just saying random shit.

      No respect.

      1. yo, wtf did this nigga say?? are we reading the same article? hahaha funny how u sound so fuckin stupid while trying to hate

    39. Yo Cole, keep your awkward thoughts to yourself and stop running around gassed off of “what xxxx said” If the God didn’t tell you that then why are you listening to he said she said for?…I dunno about these new school kids, they seem shallow and lost with no loyalty and need approval from the masses to feel a certain way…Grow up lobster.

    40. This story is getting outta hand. Jay just needs to stop being so snobby and give Cole a verse. If I remember correctly Big and Jaz-O blessed Jay with verses on Reasonable Doubt. Mary J. Blige laced him with some vocals. Others did it for Jay on his first album so I can’t see why he wouldn’t do it for Cole.

    41. Cole needs to stop being so damn needy…no album out and he’s talking like he’s a pro in the game waiting on a verse. It will come man. You are in a privileged position and talking like you’ve been disowned or something.

    42. This website constantly twists Cole’s (and other artists’) words. Listen to the interviews, not what these assholes write. I hate how bloggers (they are NOT journalists), act like they are on some journalism shit.

I wasn’t even going to type a comment, but I hate the way they are portraying this “story”. It’s not even a story!

    43. LOLOL! Cats catching feelings about WTT is WHATS really going on these days. They want HOV in the wack box with Eminem’s ass so they feel better about their favorite artist. BALL SO HARD NIGGAS WANNA’ FINE ME!

    44. HOLD THE FUCK UP YOUNG BUCKS! Jay didn’t put this nigga Cole on, wut!!!????? You mean the same Jay Cole that was on Blueprint 3? That Jay Cole? Take your time Jay, fuck this bitchmade nigga.

      1. He needs to blame HHDX for covering his every thought. Its no way you can look at Cole with that admiration that we have for rappers because HHDX makes him look lame. I can’t see someone even having beef with this dude and take it serious. You’re telling an external source that their guess is as good as yours as far as getting a verse from your boss.

      2. hip hop dx doesnt rule the world man. lol. they twist stories and manipulate facts but the interviews about j.cole speak for themselves.

    45. LMAO AT ALL YOUR “HIP HOP” HEADS WHO THOUGHT THIS DUDE WAS GONNA DROP A CLASSIC, HE’S AIGHT BUT HE HAS NO BUZZ WHATSOEVER AND JAY WON’T EVEN SEND HIM A VERSE, EVEN DRAKE GOT 16 BARS FROM JAY.

    46. he doesn’t realize that he is only pissing off Jay-Z by letting the media know he’s still waiting for a verse.

I guarantee you Jay-Z will not give him a verse now.

    47. i was fukin wit jcole to i thought he was gone do somethin dis nigga dont need a verse from jay just release ur dam album he allrdy pushed date back bcuz he was waitin 4 da right single, lol dis nigga trippin

    48. I must admit, HHDX and the bloggers are doing a good job of Putting J.Cole against Jay-Z. Now it looks mad suspect that Cole is desperate for a co-sign from his boss. He needs to keep his mouth Shut cus the bloggers and having a field day with this. Stop talkin bout Jay-Z man, its makin you look a lil pathetic. Bottom line is this tho… Hov aint spoke up on Cole cus he aint got no STAR POWER no “It” factor. Hes talented tho.. He’s not charismatic enough. Look at Wiz and Big Sean, not as talented as Cole but they have more star power, hence are more successful at this point in their careers

    49. Let Jay have a verse and he will be the highlight of the album. LMAO @ Cole not even cosidering a Nas verse.

    50. J.Cole got excited cuz he thought Jay-Z actually said that his album was a classic? But it was actually a story where J.Cole said that Jay-z thought his album was a classic but Jay-z never actually said that.

WHICH MEANS J.COLE GOT CAUGHT IN A LIE!!!

      1. Well kanye is on his own dick, so why not J Cole too….

“…At the end of the day goddamn it I’m killin’ this shit
I know damn well ya’ll feelin’ this shit
I don’t need your pussy, bitch I’m on my own dick
I ain’t got a power trip who you going home with?…”
        –Power by Kanye West

      2. ^^^^And you’re a waste of sperm and a faggot for thinking anyyone gives a fuck about what you say.. go kill yourself bitch….

    51. First off Jay is too experienced and wise at this point in his career to NOT sign a Rap artist who doesn’t have classic abilities and traits. Second, It’s important that Cole makes it on his own steam. No artist wants to be thought of as a dick rider or one who accepts hand outs. It’s called integrity. It’s a compliment to have Jay distance himself as an artist and CEO to allow Cole to becomes his own man/artist. Look, here’s how I will sum it up for ya’ll… In the words of the great KEVIN HART… “Yeah, Real Niggas, All day, JUST ME, BY MYSELF, On the block, holding it down, gun in my waist, straight face, all day, not a game, in jail, BY MYSELF, one bed, no pillow case, one pillow, DIDN’T NO BODY WRITE ME, it was early, woke up, went back to sleep, took a nap, YOU EVER GO NIGHT, NIGHT NIGGA? YOU EVER GO NIGHT, NIGHT NIGGA? EVERY ONE GOES NIGHT, NIGHT NIGGA…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIegSou2krM

      1. you’re taking this shit way too seriously.

Exactly how would a jay verse be comsidered a handout? J.cole got his own fanbase. getting a verse from jay would not even be considered a handout. so your point is moot. I agree jay hasnt done anything wrong. but people defending him with that “no handouts” argument sound stupid. Its not even like that…

      2. a handout would be jay buying 500 000 copies of j.cole’s album. Since when is giving a feature a handout? lol c’mon son.

    52. Oh its’s just typical shit man. Beyonce and Jay z are made for each other….. why you ask cause they would do anything to fuck anyone to remain at the top.

    53. J. Cole has no charisma, he is talented, but something for a choir or shit like that. He seems to forget that this is a business.

    54. What a faggot.

just make your fucking music and stop worrying about who’s going to approve of it you fucking bitch. Fuck this dude.

      1. You know, whenever some one says “he’s a hater” i think to myself, no one cares about you enough to think about you incessantly and hate on you, cut it out. However, with comments like the yours, I think my opinion might be in the wrong.

    55. J Cole has the respect of the hood, but he’s got no clout with the ladies cuz Drake is getting all the attention with his autotune singing/rapping…

His album will certify gold, if he’s lucky, but he needs a top 10 single before he drops…
