J. Cole previously revealed that he plans to drop a mixtape before releasing his upcoming debut Cole World: The Sideline Story. Speaking with Hard Knock TV, the Roc Nation rapper elaborated on his plans for the offering, which he intends to release at the end of July or early August.
“I got so many songs. I went through a period where I was trying to make a lot of singles for the album. Not a long of singles, but I was trying to find a single, so I came up with some real good ass songs,” he explained. “Some of them were singles, some of them were songs that I wanted to put out. It’s not going to be a Friday Night Lights or Warm Up
album style, but it’ll be fun, it’ll be very good music. I’m not going to call them throwaways, because I love them, I ride around playing them, but they just not gon’ make the album and I don’t want to wait a year for you to hear them. So I think there will be one.”
As for putting out the mixtape ahead of Cole World’s September 27th release, Cole says he wanted to hold off so as not to get in the way of the album single, “Work Out.”
“Late July. I don’t want to get in the way of the single. I want to give it time at radio. So late July, early August. I’m not going to lie, I’m already fiending to put it out. I’m already thinking about skits and things like that, freestyles and things like that.”

shut up u fucking faggot when i find you im gonna cut your balls with my 3″ precise swiss blade that i used to shank niggaz in jail with
Lmfao @ this nigga modern street
so its not gonna be like fnl meaning probably 5 songs with lots of skits and freestyles so people cant say it was better than the album when it drops
Don’t know about this
If Cole don’t do it with this album its over my guy. The industry is too volatile. Sad to say but true. He’ll be mentioned in underground folklore… Same with Jay Electronica.
I definitely disagree with that, just from the standpoint that this entire industry is full of people who were successful after second chances. So a first time around doesn’t always have to work. Even if you look at someone like Wiz, his original situation with Warner Bros. was ass, and after that most people thought he was done. He rebounded like nobody else. So for someone like J. Cole who is more talented musically than Wiz even if this album doesn’t work don’t write him off just yet.
9/27 : he better not change the date agian : can’t wait but industry crazy but I’m gald who dat aint work cuz now he got the chance to learn the game & we should expect something different on his debut
Its hard to say this but I’ve lost interest…
very true. the mixtape game is apart of the problem. stiop puttin all this effor into mixtapes and focus on an album. Second, these producers are charging to much. Third, these labels won’t relase it until you have a huge single, video on 106 etc.
Anybody know what song hes singing at the beginning?
