Actor Idris Elba has just made another huge step in his music career.
Billboard reports that Elba, who produces and DJs, has launched a new record label called 7Wallace Music. The label’s first signing is French artist James BKS.
“James is a rare find,” the man who played Stringer Bell on The Wire told Billboard. “His hip-hop sensibilities transfer to the other music he makes, he’s a nice person to work with and is gonna be a strong artist in the future. It’s a huge move for 7Wallace, a small indie label.”
Prior to signing with 7Wallace, James already boasted a loaded resume.
As a producer, he’s worked with the likes of Diddy and Talib Kweli. Additionally, the creative house he launched, Grown Kid, has composed music for luxury brands including Yves Saint-Laurent and Prada.
Months prior to this week’s announcement, James posted a photo of himself with Elba on Instagram and wrote “we up to something @idriselba” in part of his caption.
James will be releasing a single titled “Kwlele” on July 13.

Idris a true hip hop fan and a dj in many musical styles. Not too many genuine music people in the industry so seeing Idris have a go at it is nice.
I know Stringer Bell character got kill off in the HBO series The Wire but if Iris Elba get The Wire movie done he can do the soundtrack for the movie off his new record label .
