After facing much negative publicity for his possible role in the death of Dr. Donda West, rapper Kanye West’s mother, [click to read], Los Angeles plastic surgeon, Dr. Jan Adams, was sentenced to one year in prison for driving under the influence.
According to TMZ.com, Adams pleaded no contest to a DUI charge in an incident that occurred last June in the Bay Area. He was arrested after numerous drivers reported that they witnessed him driving his Jaguar XK8 the wrong way on Highway 680. When authorities finally apprehended him, they discovered his blood alcohol level to be .20, which is more than double the legal limit for intoxication in California.
The 54-year old surgeon, who is also an author and television personality, will carry out his sentence in the Solano County Jail in Vallejo beginning on February 6th in order to allow him time to attend to a separate probation violation issue in Los Angeles.
According to Michael Cardoza, Adams’ defense counsel, the defendant chose to do jail time rather than face probation and the revoking of his physician’s license. Cardoza also said that his client’s drinking stemmed from the stress caused by the controversy surrounding the death of Dr. West.
