Lil Nas X is taking his attack on BET to the next level. The Montero star was rightfully frustrated after the 2022 BET Awards denied him any nominations earlier in June, and now he’s channeling that frustration into a volatile diss track.
The 23-year-old took to Instagram to preview a new song called “Late to the Party,” which opens with him rapping, “Fuck BET.” The track features guest vocals from NBA YoungBoy, who was also snubbed by the BET Awards despite his continued success over the last year.
Lil Nas X had a lot to say last week when he realized neither he nor his platinum album Montero had appeared on the list of noms.
“Thank you bet awards,” Nas X wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “An outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!”
He continued, “idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album. feel like that should’ve helped me a bit … not even that, doesn’t even have to be me nominated. I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”
Queen Latifah shared the young rapper’s frustrations, telling TMZ that she believes Lil Nas X had been snubbed.
“Lil Nas X is amazing,” she replied. “He should’ve been nominated. I don’t know if that’s the case. I don’t know what’s behind all that, but inclusion is always the key. That’s what we should be striving for. There’s enough room in this world for everybody.”
Still no word on when Lil Nas X plans to drop off this diss track, but considering the 2022 awards take place on June 26, it could be soon.
Trash.
The internet and available streaming as opposed to physical copies of albums has fostered an environment where 1 hit wonders manage to stay around for way longer than they have any right to. This is simply off them being vocal in Instagram and TikTok videos as opposed to artistic merits. I feel like not a single person talks about his music, just his shock value stunts and controversy. Even that last album all I ever heard was the Nike shoes with blood, his Satanic homoerotic video imagery and that Jack Harlow said he was willing to be naked in the video. Beyond that nobody had anything to say about the music
Told y’all, Every year around this time he’s always trying to do something to get attention. We get it you’re a gay black artist. What do you want, a cookie ? I swear, him and Lizzo are the worst this generation has to offer. All clout and controversy, but hardly any talent. That’s why they probably didn’t nominate you. Besides, who gives a f*** about BET. If you’re an artist and you’ve already got two Grammys and you’re upset about some BET award then you might need some serious counseling. It’s not that serious.
you’re right. every June he pulls a stunt. every time. smh
Le1f, Zebra Katz and Cakes The Killa did more for acknowledgement. Not to talk about Lil B, MURS or even SGP. Therse artists made great and interesting music. They are revolutionary because of their originality and not because they claim they like to suck dick and get butthurt if someone doesn’t.
has he been shooting heroin or some shit that left arm looks suspect.
Like you he’s gay so he’s way past suspect, Evelyn.
I hate the digital Era because nobody has to actually be liked to be successful. Hell, half of the famous music makers are hated, and get their clicks out of controversy and headlines. As another comment said below, if people still had to purchase physical albums, these artists wouldn’t be around. I’ve listened to a ton of music I hate and would never buy, just to see what it is.
HOT GARBAGE!!
