New details have emerged on Rod Wave’s recent arrest, painting the alleged incident in a more harrowing light.
As previously reported, the SoulFly crooner (real name Rodarius Green) was handcuffed and charged with battery by strangulation in his native St. Petersburg, Florida on May 2. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop before being booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained on Wednesday (May 11) by the Tampa Bay Times, Rod Wave allegedly choked his ex-girlfriend while their two children were home.
The woman, whose identity has been redacted, accused the 23-year-old rapper/singer of entering her home in Osceola County on April 24 and choking her “until she couldn’t breathe” because he suspected her of talking to other men.

Rod Wave returned to the property for a second time and accused his ex-partner of taking his phone. He then kicked storage shelves and tore down two photos from the wall, throwing them on the front porch and sidewalk, before driving off.
Their two young daughters were asleep in their own bedroom while these incidents occurred. The woman — who dated Rod Wave for about four years — was left with a scratch “near the left center of her neck,” but declined medical treatment.

After his May 2 arrest, Rod Wave was released from the Pinellas County Jail on $5,000 bail the following day. He has pleaded not guilty to the felony battery charge and is currently awaiting trial.

The alleged incident threatens to overshadow the release of Rod Wave’s upcoming album Beautiful Mind, the follow-up to his chart-topping 2021 effort SoulFly. On Thursday (May 12), the Florida native announced on Twitter he’s delayed the album to June 10 while sharing a preview of new music.
“Just hope you don’t get it twisted, I love that girl to death/I make mistakes in my relationship I still regret,” he raps on the unreleased song. “You know the life of a star, they all gon’ pretend/Can’t be moving off of emotions, letting new people in.”
