The legendary DJ Kay Slay was hospitalized with COVID-19 last December and apparently still isn’t out of the hospital four months later. According to a recent post from Wack 100, the New York Hip Hop staple is “still fighting” and needs all the prayers he can get.

However, there was at least one promising update in Wack 100’s caption — Kay Slay is supposedly off the machine that was helping him breathe.

“He’s been off the #ECMO machine for a couple weeks now,” Wack wrote. “Let’s continue our prayers as our brother continues to fight.”

In January, Wack 100 initially suggested Kay Slay wasn’t going to survive but was quickly checked by Kay Slay’s brother Kwame Grayson. Speaking exclusively toHipHopDX at the time, Grayson was convinced the 55-year-old was on his way to a full recovery.

“He’s definitely not going to die,” Grayson said. “That right there … I’m not going to lie, I was jumping around. I was definitely happy. Kay Slay is a private dude and he didn’t tell anybody in the hospital who he was, and we was kinda getting average treatment. When they found out who he was, that’s when everybody stepped up treatment. He was slowly fading away, but God didn’t let that happen. Everything in time and when they found out who he was, they got him powered up again. So he’s up and going. He’s like in a recovery state, but he’s definitely not going to die. You can trust me on that.”

DJ Kay Slay's Brother Provides Promising Update On His COVID-19 Battle

A few days later, Grayson told DX by text, “The doctors told us and mom that his eyes just opened today. It will be along time before he’s released from the hospital, but a long time is better than no time.”

Wack 100 propelled the rumors of Kay Slay’s imminent death on social media with an Instagram post that read, “Pray for my brotha @djkayslay. It’s not looking good. He might be mad at me for this those that know Slay but he needs all the support he can get … Been 14 days fighting Covid and he’s just be put on a ventilator. Keep him in your prayers Please.”

But on Wednesday (April 13), Grayson said his brother was doing “OK,” although he didn’t provide any further details. HipHopDX sends healing wishes to DJ Kay Slay.
