Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar descended on the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Sunday (February 13) as they took the stage for the historic Pepsi Halftime Show.
With the L.A. Rams leading the Cincinnati Bengals 13-10 following an exciting first half, Dr. Dre and his fellow music legends blazed through a scorching medley of hits for roughly 15 minutes and surprised the crowd with a special appearance from 50 Cent, who did a rendition of his multi-platinum hit “In Da Club.”
Surrounded by sultry dancers and stripper poles, 50 Cent rocked a white tank top just as he did for the 2003 video. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre were visibly elated to be back on stage together as they performed snippets of “The Next Episode,” “California Love” and “Still D.R.E.”
In between the West Coast duo’s songs, Mary J. Blige sang her heart out during “Family Affair,” while Kendrick Lamar did “Alright” from 2015’s To Pimp A Butterfly surrounded by dozens of male dancers wearing a “Dre Day” sash.
When it came time for Eminem’s set, he began with “Forgot About Dre” before going into his Academy Award-winning single “Lose Yourself” from the 2002 film 8 Mile. Anderson .Paak, who’s signed to Aftermath Entertainment, was also on drum duty throughout the performance.
Rumors 50 Cent was going to pop up during the Pepsi Halftime Show were floating around online last week.
Despite organizers’ best efforts to keep rehearsals under wraps, a video made its way to Twitter in which “In Da Club” could be heard at full volume, prompting people to assume 50 Cent would be on deck. Sure enough, the television mogul joined his longtime collaborators and friends onstage and proceeded to blow the crowd away.
Check out some of the highlights below.
This show couldn’t have been more west coast. Big props to Dre and team. It was fucking dope!
Except 3 of the 6 artists are from NY and Detroit – but the vibe was WC
Actually Snoop lived in Detroit also. His dad was a postal worker here. Detroit is where he got his game from.
Would have been a whole lot cooler if the brought Game out for Hate It Or Love It with 50.
That would’ve been dope.
Well, at least Gayme got his little “g-uNot” moment back in the day, hope it was worth it.
Dre n Em held it down. Only performance with more action is a Tekashi 6ix9ine live show.
Wasn’t impressed
Halftime show was underwhelming. Sounded like a lot of it was playback. I swear Em was lipsyncing. “Say your words” – Jadavoice. 50s mic was too low and Mary was terrible. Dre and Snoop sounded great. Kendrick was ok. The stage setup was wack.
what’s with all the dancers especially them fat ones and they fucked the beats up with the live bands god damn. and eminem taking a knee was corny as hell. Dre snoop and em playlist was perfect but shit didn’t sound right
Ja Rule and Officer Ricky gotta hold this L!!!
Loved the show. West coast heavyweights. I thought Kendrick should have had 1 more set but not complainin. Em killed it. 50 sound levels were low tho. Great show overall
LA live as fuck 2nite. Crowd went ballistic. Ears ringing like a muthafucka. Eminem crowd fucked my shit up, loud as fuuuuck. Give this show 5 blunts!!!
All these Jacka$$, too cool for school comments…
STFU Ja. You a biatch h8r
50 Cent looking like Bizarre in “My Band”. Lmaaaao
50 got a head like a cinder block in real life..
Dre and his team wrecked it. Got me felling all giddy inside. Great job fellas, great music is timeless!
It’s too bad Game chose Jimmy Henchman over 50 who made him a star. Or else he pry woulda been on that stage.
Nothing special about hearing songs that you’ve heard 10000 times. It was cool for what it was.
One of the greatest 20 minutes of TV in history. Legendary hall of fame performances by everyone involved. I will always remember Anderson’s wide beautiful smile playing those drums with the band on Lose Yourself. Everyone who was around felt it when the band broke into I Ain’t Mad At Ya. But it was a triumphant performance no tears from me just smiles and pride. Felt good to be a hip hop fan yesterday.
I thought 50 and Kendrick were let downs. Eminem could’ve stepped it up a little more considering his status in hiphop. Snoop and dre outshone them all
Cool for what it was, they represented hiphop well, as they should.
I flipped the channel half time. I know Eazy E children wanted Dre to give their father a shout out. But Dre always been a let down. And Eazy did more for Dre career than Jimmy Iovine. And Dre wont perform one NWA song. If he cant do that he need to sit his old ass down somewhere. He act like that wasn’t him back in the day. He the same one that ran a train on a groupy on a tour bus with Eazy and all of NWA. And the groupie got pregnant. This when Dre left Ruthless for Deathrow. Turned out to be Eazy baby. That Henry chick, Remarkable, or whatever she call herself. But Wazy let Dre live with him when Dre was homeless. I said it for years. Dre ain’t real…
‘50 was the dopest part of the show, and how the fuck can you think he’s fat? Did you see he’s arms and I don’t See a fat guy doing that upside down rapping!
The irony of the entertainment industry. There’s an open class action lawsuit against the NFL for discrimination. They bring Em out and let him kneel and people are going crazy. Gotta love it
