Ten years ago, the Wu-Tang abbot, the RZA introduced his Bobby Digital alter-ego with 1998’s Bobby Digital In Stereo. The album went platinum for Columbia Records, and was followed up by 2001’s gold Digital Bullet. The character is also remembered for competition with fellow veteran emcee/producer Kool Keith, who with Ice-T and Sir Menelik, created The Analog Brothers, an outfit that accused RZA of copying styles.
After working on film scores, acting, animation projects and the resurgence of Wu-Tang Clan, RZA is readying what will be his first solo album since 2003’s Birth of a Prince. July 1 will see the release of Digi Snax, the third in the series from Bobby Digital. The album finds the title character reportedly on a quest for sex and science-fiction.
To promote the release, RZA is gearing up for a tour with Soul/Funk band Stone Mecca. The dates are as follows:
