Nick Cannon offered nothing but positivity and prayers during his talk show on Wednesday (December 8), a day after revealing his seventh child, Zen Cannon, had died from a brain tumor over the weekend at just five months old.
“Thank you. I need it. I need it,” Cannon said as he walked out to applause from the studio audience. “Even in our lowest moments, it’s the other people around you, it’s your family that builds you up so thank you.”
When the audience settled in, Cannon commented on the recent death of his child, saying, “People keep asking me how I am doing. I say, ‘I’m vertical.’ I’m standing. That is a good start.” He added he’s been taking things “five minutes at a time.”

Prior to stepping in front of the live cameras, Cannon led his audience in prayer before air time.
“We out here, we love that energy,” Cannon said in an Instagram video. “That’s what it’s all about.” He then asked the audience “can I pray with y’all?” to which they responded with uproarious applause.
On Tuesday’s (December 7) episode of The Nick Cannon Show, the distraught host explained he and his family initially discovered early on Zen was dealing with Hydrocephalus, “the buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain.”

“I always noticed he had a cough and so I wanted to check it out,” Cannon said. “He had this interesting breathing and by the time he was two months I noticed he had this nice sized head too — a Cannon head. We didn’t think anything of it. But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinus and breathing. We thought it would be routine.”
It was during this routine visit Cannon and his family learned fluid was building in their child’s head, which was caused by a malignant tumor that required an operation to drain it.

“Ultimately, it was cancer in the brain and the tumor began to grow a lot faster,” he continued before getting choked up. “And so we knew that time was … this weekend I made a valid effort to spend the most quality time I could spend with Zen. We woke up on Sunday — I got to spend the weekend with him — and I woke up on Sunday and was like, ‘I feel like I want to go to the water.’ We got a chance to go to the ocean.”
