Big Daddy Kane Confirms Mystery Verzuz Matchup: ‘One Time For The Culture!’

Well, the rumors are true. Big Daddy Kane has confirmed he will face off with KRS-One in the next Verzuz battle. The event takes place on October 17 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET in partnership with USA’s upcoming horror series, Chucky.

The Long Live The Kane legend shared the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday (October 5), writing, “It’s official! October 17th at Barclays Center. One time for the Culture!!!”

The official Verzuz Instagram account initially teased the matchup using silhouettes of the two Hip Hop icons, asking fans to predict who they’d booked for the Barclays Center event.

“WANNA PLAY?” the caption read. “We got a new VERZUZ on the way Sunday, October 17th, brought to you by the killer new series, #Chucky. Who do y’all think it is!? Drop your guesses in the comments below and we’ll pick an entry at random to get a pair of tix!”

But it turns out the “mystery” silhouettes were a little too good. Snoop Dogg was among the many who immediately guessed Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One. Kane’s “Smooth Operator” flattop haircut was a dead giveaway, while KRS-One’s Boogie Down Productions-era hat seemed to be just the clue fans needed.

Here's The One Rapper Big Daddy Kane Wants To Battle In Verzuz, No Gimmicks

Plus, Big Daddy Kane told HipHopDX in June the only opponent he’d consider actually battling was the legendary Kris Parker.

“If we can get it to happen with me and KRS-One, I would rather it be like a battle format,” he said. “If it’s going to be me and Rakim, then we might as well just do it with the music. You know what I mean? I don’t really see him as a battle rapper.

“I think it would be better to just do it with just the music, if it’s going to be me and him. But KRS is a battle rapper, so it’s going to be me and him. I think we should do the music for the fans but also do a few rounds of battle rap.”

    1. This one is going to be HILARIOUS in a GREAT WAY. I know KRS-One sat back and saw all the love Jadakiss got just for doing what he’s been doing for about 35 years. Best believe he’s going to be on a mission to show people he’s the greatest MC of all time. He believes that and he’s going to be talking his SHIT. And Kane is Kane. He ain’t going for it. He’s going to do him regardless. It’s going to be classic.

      1. Most definitely. That’s the natural matchup that everybody wanted to see. Everybody debated that when they was still active in the game. It’s like Brandy and Monica was for the R&B fans.I heard both Kane and Rakim in separate interviews say they would do it but all of a sudden we get this. Something is always up to it when it comes to those two.

      2. Nah, Rakim isn’t a battle rapper. His stage presence is not up to par with Kane and KRS. Lyrically, there is no doubt that Rakim there, but from a showmanship stand point having seen him twice in ’01 or ’02 and again in 2017, I can say that he wouldn’t be a great matchup for Kane.

        KRS get’s live as hell
        Kane is a showman

This is going to be dope.

        1. Pooch, Verzuz is not a real battle though. Rakim’s best 20 songs WAAAAAAAY better than any 20 songs KRS can come with, respectfully. And Kane’s 20 will be way better too. KRS is going to rely on obscure songs people don’t know and trying to out-emcee Kane. That’s his only chance. But both of them have way more bangers than KRS, and I love KRS.

          1. Its the other way around you fool. Krs one got way motre bangers than rakim and bdk put together. Rakim and BDK were only hot from 87-1990. Krs one was still hot when Biggie and Pac was active with Step into a worl. Krs was hot from 87-97. And to top it off he is a wayy better emcee and would smash bdk and rakim together on stage. You dont know nothing about hip hop with that false statement. Go sit down little boy

    2. Kane blows KRS out of the water. Not even close. KRS didn’t age well. Sound of da Police is about the only relevant shit KRS still has. BDK has a catalogue.

      1. What? KRS was still going like 20 years past Kane and had many upon many relevant tracks til the early 2000s.

        1. Nah. He didn’t. After he did “I got Next” it was a rap. He became a loudmouth dissing Howard Stern, talking all kinds of environmental and health shit and supporting Afrika Bambatta after all the chilling rubbing came to light. BDK has selectively done tracks with Premier beats, posthumous features, all great music. KRS out out WAY too much shit and painted himself into a corner by running his stupid fucking mouth too much. The “teacher” supports his Zulu Nation “Principal” who fondles kids. Not a good look. Oh, and Kane will rap circles around him on a beat with a DJ. Like Motion did to KRS on the Wake Up Show. You clearly have t followed Hip-Hop since when these records and CDs were coming out to speak up youngster. The second Scott died KRS started his descent downhill.

          1. KRS does his own thing put out his own records independently you don’t see him on DJ Vlad talking about anybody like he needs a loan. What have you done with your life that you can have KRS name in your mouth with such disrespect? Live your own life instead of critiquing others. Life is way bigger than having some dumb record on some made up chart.

    3. Peace too both God’s and heavyweights.First for most KRS is from Flatbush av D.So it really a BK battle with a BX twist.I luv my 5percent bro BDK he is Bedstuy finest I could walk too his hood from were I live remember those days 80s Kane was and still is original King of Crooklyn. He is from County of kings so that speaks for itself.God Rasheem Ebbets fields finest.Warm it up Kane and make them feel wrath of Kane.

    4. This is gonna be huge. KRS still got joints he can pull out from the last couple years – don’t know how deep Kane’s 2000’s bag is

    5. I love Kane. He’s one of my all time favorites. Krs has an unmatched catalog. If we’re talking versus maybe you can pair Krs with Cube or LL. I’m not sure many other solo artists have the material independently to deal with Kris.

    6. I love Kane- I like him over KRS personally- but he does not stand a chance against KRS. His catalog too deep- KRS is BDP- the first album alone will destroy KANE

      You must learn ….

Kane was done after his second album ….about 5 solid tracks – first album -2-3 off the second and the symphony… Kane my boy- just not enough for the teacher. We have to stop believing our favorites are the best. You may love the one you with, but he or she maybe be the best.

    7. With respect to the other folks in this discussion, I am pretty much dumbfounded that folks believe KRS-ONE is going to beat Kane in this matchup. Kane is the best at this. SMH.

I get it. Folks are comparing their discography. And, by the numbers, KRS-ONE has put out more albums than Kane. But, when they go live on Oct 17th, all that stuff goes out the window. It will come down to how Kane and his dj and Krs and his dj put it all together.

But, the VERZUZ battle is going to come down to one thing. And, one thing only. That is, the FREESTYLE BATTLE that will probably happen, after they’re done playing their songs.

I am quite sure the entire borough of Queens will be looking for revenge from the “Bridge is over” song. I am quite sure, a lot of Big Time mainstream rappers such as LL, Dougie Fresh, Melle Mel, Slick Rick, etc will be taking bets on this matchup. Freestyle battle-wise.

My money is on Kane. All day. Everyday.

I suspect that a lot of people who are picking Krs to mop the floor up with Kane, are probably looking at a lot of Kane’s romantic songs for the ladies. And, they really haven’t been paying attention to the rest of his catalog. Which are basically Battle Rhymes in them.

      LOL!!!!!!!!

I think these folks are going to be extremely shocked, at the outcome on Oct. 17th. LOL!!!!!!

      I can’t wait.
