Three of them will get a chance to redefine the 1972 John Denver classic “Rocky Mountain High” on Wednesday night (September 1) when they perform at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, a historic venue nestled in the surrounding rocks at 6,450 feet above sea level.
The stacked lineup features Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, Method Man, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Collie Buddz and Dizzy Wright, Futuristic and special guest Meanteam.
Method Man, Redman and Busta Rhymes will then head to Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver on Thursday (September 2) for an encore.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre has been up and running at full capacity since June when COVID-19 restrictions started to relax. But as the Delta variant ramps up in the United States, AEG Live and Live Nation have decided to take action. Beginning October 4, concert attendees will be required to provide either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours to gain entry.
AEG Live made the announcement on August 12 with a press release that read in part, “The decision comes on the heels of the dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases as the Delta variant spreads throughout the United States.”
COO of AEG and Chairman and CEO, AEG Presents Jay Marciano said in a statement, “We have come to the conclusion that, as a market leader, it was up to us to take a real stand on vaccination status. Just a few weeks ago, we were optimistic about where our business, and country, were heading. The Delta variant, combined with vaccine hesitancy, is pushing us in the wrong direction again.”
He added, “We realize that some people might look at this as a dramatic step, but it’s the right one. We also are aware that there might be some initial pushback, but I’m confident and hopeful that, at the end of the day, we will be on the right side of history and doing what’s best for artists, fans, and live event workers.”
But AEG Live might have a tough time convincing Busta Rhymes to adhere to their rules. During a St. Louis concert in June, Bus-A-Bus made it clear where he stood on the issue.
“The last 15 fucking months, COVID can suck a dick,” he said in a viral clip. “All these little weird ass government policies and mandates, suck a dick! They try to take our civil liberties away. It feels good to be back outside. We outside for real. It’s called the god given right of freedom, right? No human being supposed to tell you you can’t just breathe freely.”
