Trae Tha Truth is launching a Howdy Homemade Ice Cream shop near his hometown of Houston that will employ special needs young adults.

Located at 20920 Katy Freeway, Howdy Homemade Ice Cream will open on July 22 to coincide with Trae Day, a day awarded to Trae Tha Truth by previous Houston mayor Bill White in 2008 for his work within the community.

“God Is Key!!!” he wrote on Instagram. “Im Proud To Announce Me & My Bro ( Rod ) @vortex_surgical Just Franchised To Open Our Own Ice Cream Shop!! Howdy Homemade ice cream Katy will be opening TraeDay July 22nd. This Is Special Because We will Employ Special Needs Young Adults and Give Them A Opportunity To Work And Experience & Have a chance To Be Supported!!”

He continued, “We hope to change the way the world looks at everyone. Follow @howdyhomemadekaty. The Mission Is To Inspire And Bless Others With Our Blessings!!!”

Howdy Homemade Ice Cream currently has stores in Dallas with plans to open in even more locations, with an overall goal of providing work for people with special needs.

“Every aspect of Howdy Homemade encompasses the special needs of the huge under-employed segment of our population with one goal: To change the way businesses hire people with special needs,” their website says. “Today in North Texas alone, there are over 240,000 special needs adults looking for work.”

Trae Tha Truth’s business partner Roderick Baston got the idea from seeing the company on NBC’s Today Show, and is working with local organizations such as Smartie Pants Academy Center and Katy Wolf Pack to hire workers for the store.

Baston told the Houston Chronicle, “I called Trae and said we need to bring this to Houston and we moved forward from there,” with Trae adding, “Anything we can do special needs-wise, is a plus for us. It elevates and supports the special needs community.”

As the father of a special needs son, the business is close to home for Trae Tha Truth.
