Ever since The Recording Academy snubbed The Weeknd at the 2021 Grammys, the Toronto singer has been taking wins left and right. In February, The Weeknd headlined the Super Bowl LV halftime show and became the first artist to have a song spend a full year in Billboard’s Hot 100 Top 10 the following month. Now, he’s looking to keep his run going with a new announcement.

In a report by Billboard, The Weeknd will take the stage and perform at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on May 23. The announcement comes after Abel was named the top finalist at the show with a nomination in 16 different categories such as Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Latin Song.

According to Billboard, their awards show “celebrates music’s greatest achievements, with finalists determined by performance on the Billboard charts. Finalists and winners are based on key fan interactions with music — album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay and social engagement — tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data.”

The Weeknd’s Billboard success with his fourth studio album After Hours was remarkable. It became the fourth best-selling album of 2020 with over two million copies sold and gave The Weeknd three No. 1s with “Heartless,” “Blinding Lights” and “Save Your Tears” featuring Ariana Grande.

Last week, The Weeknd had something to say about the Recording Academy announcing the removal of “secret committees” created to “protect the integrity” of the nominations.
