Most people love a good comeback story. With Bobby Shmurda’s release from prison on Tuesday (February 23) after more than six years behind bars, it’s all eyes on the GS9 rapper and he’s basking in this well-deserved moment.
Many in the rap community have saluted the Brooklyn native for staying true to who he is and loyal to his crew, which was a prerequisite in rap at one point. YG and 21 Savage have both welcomed Shmurda home with separate social media posts.
“Rowdy, Kodak and Bobby back 2021 starting off perfect,” 21 wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, YG approved of the Shmurda celebrations and serenades during his first days out via Instagram.

“Bobby Shmurda how it pose to look when you kome home from jail,” YG said. “Real n-gga celebration. That’s how it pose to look @realbobbyshmurdags9.”
GQ tracked the “Hot N-gga” rapper for a new post-prison interview where he detailed the plans he mapped out while behind bars, most of which included purchasing real estate.
“I’m going to get real rich on y’all,” he said. “I’m going to make it legit, though. They want to see you n-ggas back selling crack. You know what I mean? Going to jail and shit. And I’m going to make it legit now.”
The 26-year-old went just short of promising an album but has “projects” in the works. Quavo, who picked up Shmurda from jail in a private jet and escorted him to his newfound freedom, deemed a Shmurda feature on Culture III to be a “must.”
