Kid Cudi Takes Credit For Starting The Skinny Jeans Trend As He Readies His Own Clothing Line

Following a busy year of acting, executive producing movies/TV shows and releasing his Man on the Moon III: The Chosen album, Kid Cudi is ready to step into the fashion world. On Tuesday night (January 26), the Cleveland native took to Twitter to announce that he’s starting his own clothing line and the first pieces will be available sometime in 2021.

“Finally startin my own clothing line,” he revealed. “Been a long time comin and another dream of mine. More madness, true vision, freshness comin soon!!!”

He added in a separate tweet, “This summer ima have my first drop of stuff.”

On the topic of clothing, a fan claimed Kid Cudi had “already created skinny jeans,” to which he agreed.

“No lies here,” Cudi said, before anticipating his upcoming jeans will be the “ultimate denims.”

Kid Cudi also took the opportunity to open up about his mental health following suicidal thoughts and checking into rehab in 2016.

“Man so much to do and see,” he said. “Since 2016 I’ve been climbin upward. Comin from rehab, suicidal thoughts, not loving myself, hating my life…to being beyond happy, loving myself more than ever, doin everything I always dreamed of. My angels been watchin over me. I am truly blessed.”

In September 2016, Kanye West claimed he in fact wore skinny jeans first while on stage in Houston. The comments were made in response to Cudi, who had mentioned Ye and Drake in a tweet that said, “These n-ggas don’t give a fuck about me. And they aint fuckin with me.”

“I’m so hurt,” Ye said at the time. “I feel so disrespected. Kid Cudi, we two black men in a racist world. I wore skinny jeans first! I got called names before you, bro! Why y’all gotta be coming at me? This ain’t the end of the Malcolm X movie! I’m out here fighting for y’all! Creatives! Artists! Independent thinkers! Don’t ever mention my name in a bad manner! None of y’all! I birthed you.”

    1. Skaters, punks and rockers were all wearing skinny jeans long before Kid Cudi “created them”. Hip-hop has been stealing from Skate and Punk culture/fashion forever and trying to pass it off like something fresh they came up with. But they’re real quick to call someone else culture vultures…

      1. Very true. We will back to baggy jeans by the end of the decade. It’s an endless cycle. Just like how hip hop artists started out wearing gold, then went to silver late 90s and early 2000s, and now back to mostly gold. A few trendsetters and then everybody else follows. Same with the type of hats people wear. Fashion is a funny thing. It’s just recycled versions of older trends.

      2. True..but too be fate hip hop makes things “kool” in a popular since. I get your stance (valid) but the majority of the world is influenced by what’s MOST popular. Hip hop is currently pop fam.

      3. stealing from skaters and punk rock did you not know that black people invented rock n roll ..nwa where wearing skinny jeans

        1. if you wanna get technical EVERYONE used to wear skinny jeans/pants. Except they just called them pants that fit.

    2. Clearly skinny jeans were popularized by classic rock bands in the 60’s and 70’s. This trend was revitalized in the late 1990s and early 2000s by pro skaters such as Andrew Reynolds, Jim Greco and Jamie Thomas. Skaters started the trend, as it trickled down to rappers and eventually designers. I feel cudi May have a hand in pioneering emo rap but definitely not skinnies lol

      1. classic rock bands who stole black music at one rock n roll is a black genre made by black people….white people stole rock and the fashion …just like mr.t invented the mohawk….oh how about the beetles and slvis stealing songs from black artist

        1. Lmfaoooo I’m not disagreeing that rock was originally black and stolen but me T invented the Mohawk? Lmfaoo read some. You might be surprised to hear that the Mohawk derived from the North American Tribe known as the Mohicans, who btw predate Mr.T The A-Team and AMERIKKKA. Never mind the fact that the original black artists that created rock DEFINITELY did not wear skinny jeans lmfaooo

      1. Valid…”skinny ass pants & some vans”. By the most popular artist at the time (drake was on the rise, yes) but Wayne was Wayne..sk8r kids mad low key. (With reason) …join the appropriated club homes. Lol

    3. Hahahahaha. These grown men arguing about skinny jeans and y’all debating who started the trend. Just a reminder, fashion IS NOT an element of hip hop. Keep it movin
