Dr. Dre and Nick Cannon are among the many celebrities putting their money and time to good use as part of the Feed Your City Challenge. The food giveaway event took place in Compton, California on Saturday (November 21) with sponsorship from Dre, Suave House Records CEO Tony Draper, retired NBA star Ricky Davis and Compton Mayor Aja Brown.
Cannon was on deck taking photos and videos with the excited crowd as music bumped in the background, a marching band got down on the drums and people danced all over the nearby basketball court.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks were heavily present, there was a one-lane drive-thru and another line for walk-up and social distancing was in practice as much as possible — of course, unless Cannon was posing for a photo with some of his fans.
As Cannon was leaving, he was asked what he wanted for Christmas and he replied, “Unity. Peace on Earth.”
People in need were able to get a plethora of free groceries, including turkeys for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. This year’s giveaway also included Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help keep families safer from the coronavirus.

The Feed Your City Challenge include 10 events stretched across different cities in the United States. According to the Ricky Davis Legacy Foundation website, “Due to our current state in America, a raging pandemic, and a need to relinquish hope to communities, our founder Ricky Davis has partnered with Suave House Records CEO Tony Draper to give birth to the ‘Feed Your City Challenge,’ a challenge to fellow influencers and leaders to take action to feed those in their rightful communities and spread hope.”
Their strategies include fresh groceries and essential PPE supplies for 4,000+ community members, administering of goods via no contact drive-thru lanes, following all CDC social distancing guidelines and partnerships with local organizations, restaurants and stakeholders.
The events kicked off in June and have boasted help from Pusha T in Norfolk, Virginia, Pop Smoke’s manager Steven Victor in Brooklyn, New York and Rick Ross in Miami, Florida. The Masked Singer host was also on hand for Chicago’s Feed Your City Challenge last month.
