The shocking death of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman made many fans revisit the film’s soundtrack, which was curated by Kendrick Lamar. According to Billboard, songs from Black Panther: The Album generated 3.5 million streams following Boseman’s passing on August 28.
Nielsen Music/MRC Data showed a 103.5 percent increase in streaming activity over the course of August 28-29. During the previous two-day period of August 26-27, the soundtrack had 1.7 million streams.
Lamar’s “All The Stars” collaboration with Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate SZA received a significant boost in listenership. The song alone racked up 910,000 streams from August 28-29, representing an 83 percent increase from its 502,000 streams from August 26-27.

Another Lamar cut, “Pray For Me” alongside The Weeknd, experienced an 84 percent increase during the same time frame. The track jumped from 263,000 streams between August 26-27 to 486,000 in the aftermath of Boseman’s death.
Black Panther: The Album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and garnered critical acclaim, receiving a 4.5/5 score in HipHopDX’s official review. The LP was nominated for Album of the Year and its single “King’s Dead” won Best Rap Performance at the 2019 Grammy Awards. The project included contributions by Travis Scott, Jay Rock, Swae Lee, ScHoolboy Q and Mozzy, among others.

Boseman passed away following a four-year battle with colon cancer on August 28. Prior to his death, Boseman’s cancer diagnosis was never revealed to the public.
