As news of Chadwick Boseman’s death sinks in, social media continues to erupt with tributes to the Black Panther actor. The 43-year-old South Carolina native passed away on Friday (August 28) after a four-year battle with colon cancer. Unbeknownst to the millions of people who saw the blockbuster Marvel film in 2018, Boseman was already in the biggest fight of his life.
According to statement from Boseman’s family, he was undergoing chemo and countless surgeries while shooting the incredibly demanding film — yet nobody knew. Subsequently, his death came as a total shock for the countless people who admired him.
Boseman represented a symbol of strength, especially in the Black community. His portrayals of influential African American figures such as Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get On Up and, of course, King T’Challa in Black Panther not only showcased his versatility as an actor but also a love for his roots.
