Big Sean has been relatively silent on the passing of Glee actress Naya Rivera — until now.
On Friday (July 17), Sean took to Instagram to pay tribute to Rivera, championing her heroism as well as how the 33-year-old actress inspired others.
“Rest In Peace Naya, God Bless your Soul!,” Sean wrote. “Thank you for blessing us all with your talent and presence. you are a hero! Not just because of how you saved your son, also because of the barriers you knocked down for so many people to make them feel confident in themselves and to stand tall and be proud when they couldn’t achieve that on their own.”
He added, “I appreciate and cherish everything that ever happened between us for making me wiser and a better person. I’m still grieving and in shock, I can’t believe this is real. I’m praying for you and your family and I know your watching over them and protecting them. Rest In Peace Naya.”
Rivera and Sean dated in 2013 and were engaged for six months until they split in 2014. After their breakup, Sean released “IDFWU” from his Dark Sky Paradise album, prompting fans to believe that the song was an intended diss of Rivera.
The actress’ went missing on July 8 after boating at Lake Piru in California. She was swimming with her son and her body became entangled in the lake’s debris.
According to reports, Rivera placed her son back on the boat before she went under. Her body was recovered on Monday (July 13).
(In my Abe Lincoln storytelling voice) I knew a young lady in my heydey. She used to always mock me for listening to Killah Priest and Canibus, said I had no taste, and demanded full control of the radio whenever we were together. Ahhh, yes. The good old days. The young lady was quite educated, obtaining a master’s and PhD. She was also active in the community, in the way that spoiled rich black kids love to join the “struggle.” But the one thing that bothered me about her was she only listened to commercial rap: raps about Gucci, and ice, and all the luxuries afforded by hood glory. Her favorite artists were Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, The Dream, and TI. I say all that to ask the author: is that the type of “lowest common denominator of music listeners” that you were referring to? Ahhh… I love that story.
This story went nowhere
Naya said big Sean abu5ed her n was heartless. He getting coddled by Drake, who is stalking riri childhood home RN, creepy AF. Big Sean getting coddled but man rappers all caping for Tory Lanez who nearly murdered Megan. The industry misogyni5t to the core
She never said that And no one is caping for Tory weirdo
I honestly thought the song in question was about her and that there was no coming back to civil terms with them after that. It’s good to see Sean pay his respects and let bygones be bygones.
Release Detroit 2 already
If you are in shock and grief you are not letting the world know via instagram. Simple
My new girl is on glee and shit, probably making more money than me and shit – Blessed
