New York City Hip Hop fans are gearing up for the third annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. So far, new jacks in the game, Tanya Morgan, El Michels Affair, and Emily King, are slated to perform with people who have been in the game for a while – Dres (Black Sheep), Consequence, Skillz, Large Professor and Ghostface. A few of the featured artists mixed and mingled with BHF enthusiasts at a media mixer on Wednesday, giving a brief preview of what’s to come.

“Not to be cliché, but Hip-Hop is still alive it’s still here, and that’s what the festival shows,” said Von Pea of Tanya Morgan, excited to be sharing the stage with some of the same vets her grew up listening to.

Not only is the festival a good look for new artists, a few of the veterans feel that the show will bridge gaps necessary to preserve the culture. “We’ve been doing this for years and we’ve got different versions of Hip-Hop out right now, but I’m bringing the original recipe, the original Hip-Hop flava,” said Large Professor, who is making himself remain relevant with future mixtapes and upcoming projects with Styles P and Cormega.

For those who don’t know the Extra P, he’s planning to change that,“When they [people who don’t know who I am] see me perform, they’re going to say, ‘Now I know what real Hip-Hop is, Hip-Hop was definitely in the house.’”

While people can look forward to Large Pro backing his statement up, it’s also all about the fun. “We’re just going to come out and have a good time. Nobody parties like New York,” said Consequence, whose video “Uncle Raheim,” debuts on Okayplayer.com in early June. “It’s a New York event; New York Hip-Hop; it’s just something that the city needs to kick the summer off right.”

The Brooklyn Hip-Hop festival has done so well that it has expanded to five days worth of events, ending with the free concert on the final night. Go to www.brooklynbodega.com, for more information on how get tickets.
