Staten Island, NY

Wu-Tang Clan is forever, especially in New York City. A district in their stomping grounds of Staten Island a.k.a Shaolin has been named after the legendary group.

Lawmakers unveiled the Wu-Tang Clan District, which was approved in a unanimous vote last December, during a ceremony in the Park Hill neighborhood on Saturday (May 4). Councilwoman Debi Rose detailed the decision to honor the Hip Hop icons in a series of tweets.

“The Wu-Tang Clan District is a celebration of their inspiration to the world — and a celebration of their home, Shaolin,” she wrote. “The Wu-Tang Clan turned their experiences growing up here into something that now resonates with people all over the world, with young people who live in urban settings, young people whose neighborhoods are underserved, young people who face economic and social challenges.”

Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and Cappadonna were among the Wu-Tang members to share photos and video of the unveiling via social media.
