Kurtis Blow’s wife Shirley has revealed her husband is back in the Intensive Care Unit at UCLA Medical Center. In a statement sent to HipHopDX by good friend and legendary Hip Hop promotor Van Silk, she explained the aortic artery surgeons had repaired has dissected.
“Kurtis got a bad CT,” the statement read. “The aorta has dissected and it looks like he needs to go back to surgery. He’s back in ICU and they’re discussing surgery immediately. Emergency open heart surgery.”
She concluded with, “God is with him. Amen.”
Only two days ago, Blow updated his fans on his condition via Instagram and was grateful he was able to start physical and occupational therapy.

Blow has been experiencing heart-related issues for years. In 2016, he suffered a heart attack at his home where police were able to save his life.

Kurtis Blow is on his way to recovery after having an aortic artery repair at UCLA Medical Center on Wednesday (May 1). He shared the celebratory news on Thursday (May 2) via Instagram.

Pioneering Hip Hop artist Kurtis Blow had quite the health scare in 2016 when he suffered a heart attack. Now, Blow has revealed he’s currently at UCLA Medical Center where doctors will perform a procedure to repair an aortic artery, a condition that resulted from a recent trip overseas.
Blow shared the news via Instagram on Tuesday (April 30).
“To all my friends and family,” he wrote alongside a throwback photo. “I am in the hospital at UCLA Medical. I am preparing for an aortic artery repair procedure tomorrow morning.
“The procedure will stabilize the artery from further damage caused by the hematoma I contacted from my recent travels to China. Dr Kwon is an incredible surgeon with hundreds of these procedures under his belt. I trust that God will use him as a tool of success tomorrow. Please keep me in prayer. I will see you all soon!!!! Encouraged!!! KB.”

Blow had his heart attack at his Woodland Hills home in October 2016 and credited police officers for saving his life.
LAPD officers Chris Vege, Calvin Hill and Pete Parra initially responded to an argument Blow was having with his son. Suddenly, Blow collapsed and the officers sprung into action.
“I was holding his head, making sure he was stable, making sure his airway was open,” Vege said.
After roughly five minutes of back and forth, local paramedics took Blow to a nearby hospital.
