R. Kelly skipped a court hearing earlier this week and as a result, lost a civil lawsuit filed by an alleged underage sexual abuse victim. Now, his attorneys — Zaid Abdallah and Raed Shalabi — have filed legal docs explaining why he missed it. Simply put, he can’t read.
According to TMZ, the doc states the embattled R&B star “suffers from a learning disability that adversely affects his ability to read … in essence he cannot.”
They say this explains why he was “overwhelmed” when he got served at Cook County Jail. He wasn’t able to understand what the paperwork was about.
Abdallah and Shalabi also blasted the fact he was served while incarcerated to begin with, claiming the alleged victim’s lawyers could’ve served Kelly’s criminal lawyer or taken the documents to Trump Towers where Kelly resides.

In their defense, the woman’s lawyer said Trump Tower security made it impossible, but Kelly’s attorney doesn’t buy it.
They are asking the judge to vacate the decision so they can start over with the case.
The woman, identified as Heather Williams, sued Kelly in February. She alleges he sexually abused her several times when she was just 16 years old.
