Nas On Nipsey Hussle’s Shooting Death: “It’s Dangerous To Be An MC”

As tributes continue to pour in for the late Nipsey Hussle, Nas is among those reflecting on the larger picture. On Sunday night (March 31), the legendary MC shared a photo of Nip to his Instagram account and compared living in the United States to living in a Third World country.

“We are at a great loss today,” he wrote in the caption. “This hurts. Straight to the point. It’s dangerous to be an MC. Dangerous to be a b-ball player. It’s dangerous to have money. Dangerous To Be A Black Man. So much hatred.

“We live like our brothers and sisters in third world countries live. Right in America. Decisions we make about our own life be based on decisions cuz we might not live.”

He went on to say there was no quick solution to the violence that permeates our culture. The “The World Is Yours” mastermind promised he would continue Nip’s mission of speaking the truth.

“Its so deep rooted,” he added.”It’s not a easy fix. Hard to fix anything when kids are still living in poverty. I ain’t shutting up though, Nipsey is a True voice. He will never be silenced. He still is A stand up General for the People who never left his people.

“He is Loved by the people. Prayers for his family. Let’s keep pushing Truth for The Man. Love You King Nipsey Hussle/ Ermias Asghedom Respectfully, Nasir Jones.”

Nipsey was shot and killed outside of his Los Angeles clothing store on Sunday afternoon. Although emergency responders attempted to administer CPR on the scene, he was ultimately pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after the incident.

Two other men were also shot. They remain at the hospital in stable condition.

The Grammy Award-nominated rapper’s death has sent a ripple effect throughout the Hip Hop community. Everyone from Diddy, J. Cole and Ice Cube to Wu-Tang Clan, Busta Rhymes and The Game have expressed their shock and sorrow on social media.

There are no suspects in custody as of yet. Nip was 33.

    1. It’s not dangerous to be an MC, Nas.

It’s dangerous to claim crip gang, and claim to be a thug, while purposedly getting mixed up into gang culture. Being an MC doesn’t mean you have to be a jackass and choose to be gang affiliated.

        1. @Jason, Typical fascist snowflake! Trying to silence anyone who you don’t agree with. Why don’t you GTFO of the comment section if you can’t hang. Trying to get people banned for free speech is a bbbitttch move, sucka.

        2. Suck a dick man. People always want to censor and ban what they disagree with. If you disagree, they present your ideas. But don’t try to silence me because you disagree that being an MC doesn’t make you a target. I’m sure nobody is gonna try to kill Childish Gambino, but people will try to kill 50 cent and other gangster rappers.

      1. Your opinion or comments don’t matter. When you’re someone looking from the outside in . You’re a clown ?

        1. Lol, I can’t have an opinion from the outside looking in? So, my opinion that an MC who doesn’t claim gangs and rap about gang culture won’t likely be targeted with violence? Put it this way… Who is more likely to get shot up, 50 cent or Childish Gambino? See my point? I know he was in a gang before making music. That doesn’t make it better lol. Gang life is not good. Do we really need to argue about why gang culture sucks? Gangster rap is the only genre of music where black people hate on one another and talk shit about each other, and make violent threats. Black Rock n roll stars, black singers, black funk artist, black blues artists… Well, you get the picture. They aren’t caught up in that, because even if they were in gangs growing up, they understood that it’s not something you talk about. It’s nothing to be proud of, and if your gonna tell me that gangster rappers don’t glorify the gang culture, then your lying,.

      2. Your opinion or comments don’t matter. When you’re someone looking from the outside in . You’re a clown ?

      3. He was in gang before his music dummy. And if you listen to his projects is not solely about violence. You people judge even before you hear. He motivated more than anything in his music. Don’t jump on the wagon without details

        1. So i guess im lost? I dont see hannah montana brittney spears jessica simpson or lady gaga getting hit in front of their businesses so could we maybe agree a little bit its about the influences he surrounded himself with? Just like how all the popstars i named above have had verbal little dramatic bitch spatz like their known for just like guys loke nipsey who rep that life and those colors are either behind bars behind the trigger or in front of it it never ends well..

        2. I loved Nippseys music. He was the new west. And yes, his music was full of inspiration. But he still was a literal gangster rapper. Gangster rappers who actually live the life they rhyme about… Well, they get mixed up with killers. So again, it’s not MCs that are targeted, it’s gangster rappers. No thugs are ever gonna try and pop Lupe Fiasco, who is an amazing and underrated MC.

    2. Ay Nas, fuk outta here with that. It’s dangerous to be a well known gang member. Everybody and their momma knew where his store was, knew he be there. Prolly IG’d his location. His last tweet was about his enemies. He aint get shot cause of his incendiary lyrics. Stop tweeting high my dude.

      1. Go back idiot in the past and future… Jam Master Jay and a list of MC’s are being killed! How can Nas be wrong? Fools never read any damn thing. Get off the blog if you do not want to comprehend anything!!!

      1. Nope. If they really make their moves open, someone will kill them for no reason. Remember XXXtentacion was not a gang banger. You don’t only get killed in this way because you are in a gang. You get killed this way when there is jealousy and envy.

        1. cole and chance dont really flash wealth around like that especially in the hood. xxx was a bad person who put a lot of negative energy out there.

          1. X wasbt a gang banger, but he was a bad human being. Beating females, and being scum in general. So, it wasn’t being an MC that made him targeted… It was his bad actions as a human being. Karma exists in the sense that, if you beat my sister, I’m gonna make sure there is some form of payback. So, be good to each other y’all. Spread love, and be respectful. Respect is cool. Real gangsters wear suits and keep their name out of the media. Real gangsters run enterprises… Real gangster, are more like politicans than street thugs.

          2. Well if we’re gonna get real about the situation, nip has a history of smacking dudes, telling people to suck his dick, not saying it’s an excuse, but negative energy begets negative energy

        2. Xxxtentacion wasnt a gang banger but he acted like a disrespectful ingrate wantin smoke all the time well he got it

    3. Gotta disagree with the legendary Nasir Jones. It ain’t dangerous to be an M.C., a ballplayer, be rich etc. Well at least no more dangerous than being an Average Joe. I’ll tell you what is dangerous though… gangbanging, living in the hood, acting like a knucklehead, associating with shady people. With that said R.I.P. Nip.

      1. You are wrong. It is dangerous to be popular or have a lot of money around common people, especially depending on where you live. Nipsey was a gang member, but dont dillute Nas’s message with that nonsense.

        1. Nas is wrong. Gotta agree w Refried. Nipsey made a fatal mistake to think people in his hood wouldn’t be envious or want to rob him. Skin color has nothing to do with it as Nas is claiming. All famous people should be weary about being so accessible to the public, doesn’t matter what neighborhood you’re from, although being from the Crips makes it 10x worse. We all choose our paths in life, and Nipsey is responsible for his own demise.

          1. How is Nipsey responsible for someone killing him randomly? You dudes need to work on your 8th grade reasoning and logic skills.

            Most flawed arguments ever.

      2. You are not getting what Nas is saying. What Nas is saying has been already proven. Being an MC is dangerous. Same as ball players and rich people… especially of our culture. Nas told the truth because it is proven partner!!!

    4. Can’t wait to hear how this is white peoples fault … everything always is … so let’s hear your racist theories

      1. You are racist to think that’s even an issue. If you run around thinking most black people blame whites for everything in existance, then you are just as brainwashed as the people you accuse.

        1. no its actually reality. instead of taking responsibility for gang culture that kills your people you’d rather say ints a govt conspiracy. you never take accountability in your own neighborhoods but except white ppl to lol

    5. I don’t know why people are misunderstanding Nas’ point. Black people die everyday from violence whether they are in a gang or not. It’s that simple. Stray bullets kill innocent people as much as their intended targets who are gangbangers. Biggie, big l, JMJ, xxxtentacion all died of violence but were not in gangs. Thats the whole point. Is it that difficult to comprehend?

    6. The government and the higher ups had to silence him just like Michael and Prince and pac go and check out Nipseys research and some of the topics he was about to expose a whole billion dollar pharmacutical industry this was a hit not random

      1. millions of people already knew about dr sebi. just cause black folk are just finding out about him now doesnt mean the governement conspired to silence him.

    7. 5 to the body and 1 to the head doesn’t sound gang related to me. Those motherfukers just spray not target practicing. And the other two in stable condition as well. Sounds like a hit man making it look hang related. The fact that you are in a gang doesn’t mean you’ll die gang banging.

      1. 5 to the body while sprayin and 1 to the head for good measure it was personal but instead of immediatly making conspiracys about the government how about the meeting he and roc nation were gonna have with the PD were they gonna name names hurt business and profits? It was a gang hit

      2. his own people saying it wasnt no conspiracy and they all know who did it. an alleged known rat from their hood. nipsey told him he was not welcome over there and the guy came back shooting after being publicly disrespected.

    8. People have their opinions. I have mine. I’m a black guy. I agree that a lot of people’s opinions are their own truth. That’s how they see things. Only a person that is really aware of the deep underlying issues (like Nas said) will truly understand the actual root of this problem. White guys will come here and say things and joke all day, that’s their right. But we people who are truly concerned need to recognize the true issue at hand here. And begin to take action

      1. It’s true, that there is a problem with this gangster stuff in the black (poor) community. We’ve began to idolize being hood and we preach it to the youth in the music. Now the double-edged sword is, a lot of us listen to it for entertainment. However, there are people out there who are broken, don’t have direction, they’re seeking direction. They cling to hip hop (where “cool” youth exists) and that’s where they learn life. They think life is harsh and that you have to live by the sword, it’s all a fasad. I came up in NWA era, and that’s where I began to think it was cool to be “Ruthless” But I wasn’t ever too weak to begin following something that would be detrimental enough to take my life. We live in this imaginary world in Hip Hop, but this imaginary world has become the truth. We need to teach something different in our music so that these kids can start hearing a different definition of “cool”

        1. I agree with the upbringing being tainted but Hip Hop is and started as a reflection from the world around these individuals. Even when the rappers are faking the funk; it’s still based on reality. The music is a powerful statement and an enticing lifestyle but it’s far from the root of the problem. When you come up in poverty, there’s a lot more barriers to get to a Harvard than what it is publicized in books and instructional speech (hence the jokes and lack of empathy from white people/Republicans). That being said, I don’t have the answers on how we rise above from the desolate situations altogether. ESPECIALLY after what just went down.

          1. This is good debate bro. I welcome your insight and thoughts. We need this type of conversation going here. Thee white people/Rebublicans can continue the heckling. Just stay focused man.

      2. As a white conservative, I feel you… Everyone can have opinions about what life is like for another person, race, gender, etc… But in reality, nobody know what’s its truly like to be in any one else’s shoes, including those of the same ethnic background. I love and respect Nas for his contributions to hip-hop, but I disagree that MCs are targeted. I think gangster rappers are targets for sure. Like, 50 cent could be targeted any day by people from his past, but Lupe Fiasco wouldn’t be targeted on don’t think. It’s weird man. Black artists outside of rap don’t have this violence problem. It’s the culture, not the race. Because plenty of amazing black artists in rock, blues, jazz, funk, and more… And they have respect for each other, and you don’t here about any of them getting caught up in violence. I love hip-hop, but lots of hip-hop culture is poor culture. Repping drugs, violence, and more is obviously not good. But, it comes down to being able to listen to art, and not act it out yourself. I love gangster rap, I love violent video games… But I’m as laid back and nice to people as it gets. You feel me man?

        1. He did not say MC is being targeted! Wrong word to use in your writing. He just stated that it is dangerous to be an MC. You see… you twisted his words. Nas been through the storm like no other. The streets of Queens raised Nas. Please know hip hop before you speak against a man that ran the streets with the likes of 2Pac and Biggie. Jay-Z and Nas were just smart and wising up to stay alive. Listen to their music Mr. White Conservative and you will know Nas’s point.

        2. He did not say MC is being targeted! Wrong word to use in your writing. He just stated that it is dangerous to be an MC. You see… you twisted his words. 9. It’s dangerous to be a police officer. It’s dangerous to be a prosecutor. It’s dangerous to be a judge. It’s dangerous to be a fireman. It’s dangerous to be a Marine. It’s dangerous to serve your country. Being an MC ain’t shit. These studio gangsters get shocked when one of them get shot for playing gangster roles. Well, love a clean life and you won’t have this settle of stuff happen to you for just spitting crap into a mic.

      1. i agree with you. its far more dangerous to be a lumberjack. its more dangerous to be a power linesman. it’s more dangerous to be a roofer or an iron worker. more dangerous to be a

        1. Accidental death is different than murder idiot! Yes death is death but how you die is why Life Insurances separates the two. You get it idiot. Nas is right on this one because of past proven history of an MC. Please read more about the past history of an MC. No you are too lazy to look this up! Never mind!!!

      2. I hate to put it this way, because I agree with you, but black people in general are most likely to die at a young age from being murdererd, by another black man. So, they definitely have more obstacles to overcome than other races in America. I don’t blame “black people”, because a black killer is an individual, and nobody deserves to be represented and judged for the actions of another person, simply because they have the same skin color. I think it’s a small minority of black America that causes trouble, and hurts the chances and opportunities for all of the great black people. I love America, and am a hardcore patriot. So, to me, I want to see black America have a big come up. Black success is AMERICAN success, and I’ll always do what I can to help fellow Americans, of all races and backgrounds. We’re all in this together, and I’m sick of this bogus division that the media, Hollywood, and others are propagating. A divided nation gives power to the elite class, and I’m not for it. Democrat or republican, I think we find that we agree on a lot more topics than we disagree with each other on…. Fuck, Americans wouldn’t be divided up by race, gender, or religion if it weren’t for the media and government. They divide us up, and pit us against eachother. I’m a far right conservative man, and I’m no racist. I hate the divide in America over it, and I think it’s all on purpose. I’m stereotyped as a bigot for liking Trump, and like most stereotypes, it’s bogus. I’m open minded and loving, but I don’t want illegal aliens coming before our already unfortunate Americans, homeless, etc… Put Americans needs before others. If black America feels as if they need their lives to improve, then we should be focusing our energy on that before illegal aliens. Actually fix Flint Michigan’s water pipes, and all of hundreds of other cities with poor water quality that don’t get publicity. That’s our agenda now man, AMERICA FIRST.

      3. Idiot you are not getting what he is saying. He is looking at past history of an MC. Think people think! Furthermore is relating to our culture of people and MC’s. You cannot deny the fact that being an MC will not get you killed. Simple… check past history! Nas is right on the money.. Self hate is killing our people!

    10. @Nas is An M o. R 0 N–april fools!!!! cuz you clearly know nothing about Nip’s life. Disrespecting a dead man. Fucking fool.

    11. If you have not yourself tried to further gain more knowledge on the subject of the communities of black people, other than commenting on a hip hop website, really, how much weight does your voice really carry? Aside from those who only think like yourself, someone who is on the outside judging in? If only life worked as easily as it is for you to speak on topics you don’t understand so carefree without any REAL empathy. Yes choices need to be made but you only know what you are born into, and that goes both ways.

    12. If any of you idiots think it is not dangerous to be an MC you better go back and read your history of hip hop. Not just famous MC either… even DJ’s Most of you do not know anything about the subject matter but comment on it like you know who was Scott La Rock. You see! You do not know. He died violently in the hands of our culture. Nas is talking about self hate. It is so true! I see it daily! Our people have a problem. Our own people do not want us to WIN. Point black!!!

    13. “1,2,3/ It’s kinda dangerous to be an MC/ They shot Tupac and Biggie/ Too much violence in hip hop, why yo” Bet none of you disagreed with Black Star when they said it, but as soon as Nas says it, y’all wanna hate.
