J. Cole’s KOD wasn’t even nominated for the 2019 Grammy Awards, but he still feels like a winner. The Dreamville Records boss shared his Grammy reflections via Twitter on Monday (February 11), revealing how happy was to see Cardi B take home the award for Best Rap Album.

“I don’t never wanna be propped up by tearing somebody else down,” he wrote. “Seeing Cardi b win a Grammy make me feel like I won. Same with jay rock and Anderson. I feel for Travis cuz he really deserved that acknowledgement as well, but his moment is way bigger than the awards could say.”

Cardi thanked Cole for the kind words on Instagram.

“Thanks @realcoleworld and everybody that was in the category had amazing albums !” she wrote.

Cole continued his Grammy assessment by admitting he used to seek validation from such awards. Although many fans believed the platinum-selling MC/producer was snubbed, he looked at it another way.

“I went through a lot of heart break the first half of my career, maybe even longer, cuz deep down I needed that validation that I thought the awards could bring,” he explained. “But it’s a quote I’m about to google that’s the realist shit and sums up how I feel today. 4 anybody that need 2 hear.”

The quote read, “My heart is at ease knowing that what was meant for me will never miss me and that what misses me was never meant for me.”

Cole concluded his message by congratulating a few other Grammy winners and giving more encouragement to those who didn’t get their just due.
