Paris, France

Chris Brown has reportedly been arrested in Paris, France. TMZ reports the R&B superstar was taken into custody on Tuesday (January 22) after a woman claimed Brown sexually assaulted her at a Parisian hotel.

The accuser says she met Brown at club Le Crystal on the evening of January 15 and she agreed to follow him back to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. That’s where she says the rape took place.

A seasoned Parisian criminal defense lawyer explained investigators have two days to either release Brown or have him appear in court, where a prosecutor can ask the judge to either keep him in custody pending trial or release him with “obligations.”

If released, Brown could be ordered to surrender his passport to French authorities, pending trial. It could potentially take a year for that to happen. He also may be forced to check in at the police station every two weeks to ensure he’s still in the country.

On Saturday (January 19) — three days after the alleged rape — Brown was photographed at Paris’ Le Cirque Club with Ammika Harris, a woman who he’s reportedly dating.

This is just one of many legal troubles Brown has faced over the past decade. In 2009, Brown physically assaulted Barbadian pop star Rihanna who he was dating at the time. He pleaded guilty to a felony and was sentenced to community service, five years probation and domestic violence counseling.

Last May, Brown was sued by a woman who claimed she was raped by his friend Young Lo during a party at his home. She told investigators Brown provided plenty of drugs for the party, including Molly, cocaine and weed.

The lawsuit is ongoing.
