Kendrick Lamar Remembers Mac Miller: “Always Kept A Smile On His Face”

Tributes for Mac Miller have been pouring in since his death, including a memorial held at Blue Slide Park.

Kendrick Lamar, who collaborated with Miller on tracks such as “God Is Fair, Sexy Nasty” and “Fight The Feeling,” has joined the many rappers showing love to the late MC. In a video for Complex’s Open Late With Peter Rosenberg, K. Dot remembers his friend and collaborator.

“[He was a] great musician, great writer,” Lamar says in the clip. “Just always had a smile on his face and that’s something that I commend. No matter what he was going through, he didn’t make you feel sorry for him. He was strong about it. Always kept a smile on his face because he wanted you to smile too. And that’s just something I always loved.”

He continues, “No matter whatever personal issues, he gave you that energy. It wasn’t no misery loves company with him. He showed a smile, and you gave that smile right back. It made you feel good. So forever we gon’ remember the life, we gon’ remember that smile. Celebrate Mac Miller. Love.”

Miller passed away on September 7 at the age of 26. Just a month prior, he released his fifth studio album Swimming.

Open Late airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET on Complex’s YouTube channel.

    1. I don’t like the message in what Kendrick says. He praises that Mac never talked about his problems or showed that he was having issues, instead he smiled and had good energy. But if Mac had talked about his issues and not hid behind smile “like a good man” maybe he would have been alive
