Nipsey Hussle, a longtime fan of Master P, believes the No Limit Records founder doesn’t always get the credit his contributions to Hip Hop deserve.
During a recent interview with Billboard, the All Money In boss explained what P and his No Limit Records imprint meant to him as an up-and-coming artist and expressed his disappointment for the lack of credit for P.
“[No Limit Records] were dropping every week,” he said. “You didn’t have to see the back and see the logo — you could see the artwork and know it’s a No Limit release. They branded an image. Master P was an innovator in so many different ways. Puff gets his credit. Dame and Jay get their credit. Ruff Ryders, Irv Gotti and Chris Gotti, they get their credit. P don’t get his credit, man.”
P and his No Limit Records imprint — one of Hip Hop’s most prolific labels — dropped countless projects during the late ‘90s from artists such as Snoop Dogg, C-Murder and Soulja Slim. In Nipsey’s mind, P was essentially too successful.
“This is my opinion and I could be dead wrong: He got so successful in music,” he added. “He was the first to do it the way he did it. He put his kids on — he put Romeo on. He turned into a businessman. He did films. He burned the game out. He maxed out. I don’t know if he just got tired of the game. It’s like Jordan, like a ‘I’ve done everything, so what else I’ma do?’ You know the accolades. He was worth a hundred mil in his 20s. He broke the bank. I think maybe he needed to take a breath, but when he took a breath, somebody else stepped into the forefront.”
Nipsey also thinks P’s family commitments, which include his brother, C-Murder, getting a life sentence for murder — may have affected him.
“You know, we got short memories, man. All of us do,” he continued. “Puff figured out how to keep going without making music. I think P was grinding on his investments and put his kids on. Romeo came and popped. Then, Master P’s brother went to jail for a long time and that affects you when somebody that close to you catches a case. I respect what he did, man. He put his family on. He did everything like a boss. You gotta salute Master P.”

fuck is he talking about, Master P gets WAY more credit than Ruff Ryders, and Irv and Chris Gotti.
Negro shut it up, only people that got short attention spans or the people who want all the attention and do dumb, silly, obvious stuff to get it. Its alot of people that pay attention to History in general, not just music, law changes, racism, how slick politics manipulate society with a trend or propaganda to change society and control people in many ways. Im a black male and im a regular person. No Dummy, so i can speak for the real intelligent black males. So nippy speak for yourself on that Everyone got short attention spans… Did i read your interview yes. Why because im not so quick to clown. U seem aight playboy, but dont play yourself. Stay up and real brother.

Master PeePee and NOtalentLIMIT was STRAIGHT DOO DOO! 200 albums and NOT ONE Classic Song! After THE CHRONIC, DEATH ROW got tied up in the WARNER Freeze and Censorship Fight with C.Delores Tucker, PeePee had a short 2 and a half year run and spewed THIRD RATE ‘Cookie Cutter’ BS CDs out, with NO Quality Control, and tons of MEDIOCRE GARBAGE! Those cheap ‘films’ were straight to DVD, and among WORST ever in film history… THE FACT he’s TRIED to COME BACK 4700 times since the and F*CKIN’ TANKED every time! He has NO TALENT and he Screwed Every Artist, including his brother C-MURDER! Not the ‘Hero’ any one can try to make him out to be! Only ONE artist has done ANYTHING since and Mystikal signed to JIVE and did 2000% better and had REAL HITS and actually got paid! Let these country azz LAMES in the dust!
Net worth 350 million til this day if not mistakin.he got more hits than good rappers out today…..

Tracks ne did with Fiend, Magic, Mystikal, Snoop, C Murda, Big Ed, Mr Serv-On, etc. etc…. he has a TON of classic material Beats By The Pound had so e of the most slappin beats back then
Y’all forgot I was in the NBA for the hornets too name another in hip-hop who did.
Toronto too. P got several 10 day contracts but his stardom was so powerful, the coaches and front offices lost influence over their teams. They refused to deal with him long term for those reasons. Romeo had the same problem with his college tryouts.
I liked master p’s business hustle but no limit records was weak. Master p and no limit had a few hits but the albums were stale. I can’t say i will miss master p records but he was smart, hard working and talented business wise.
I think you need to go back and listen to: The first TRU and 2nd TRU album. Then check
Down South Hustlers. Those were decent projects. Then review P’s marketing strategy. Then study his business acumen, you will then understand P’s importance and influence to The Business of Rap. P was never a great Rapper, but his mark on Rap and is imprint in Rap, is how he changed the way business is done in Rap!
You better do your home work fellas Master P is one of the richest in the game even to this day a lot of ignorant hate is being spill in this comment section if you are to young for the 90’s era keep your mouth close, Master P was getting 85% off his record sales he had the same lawyer as the late great Michael Jackson , Master P empire had heavy hit makers from Mystical . to his brother first artist to drop movies and wearing logo around his neck clothing line before most artist today, cell phone business set his son up with his own television show need I say more stop the hate Down South Hitter put New Orleans on the map long before any other rap click
Call a thang a thang u right 100
Between this and his comments about dr. Sebi I like how he thinks. And especially the west giving props to the south??? Possibly one of the few solid dudes we got left in hiphop
Oh BTW, i like to give a shout out to MASTER P!!!!!!!!! Free C-Murder!!! 2018 Let him be free, i heard the real dude confessed to the killing. and once more Everyone Don’t Have Short Memories…… Im out 1!!!
Naw homie. C murder needs to stay in for life. We have real activists in prison that need our support.
I don’t think he did it
Other than soulja slim, no limit made weak music. But P built an empire and has a net worth around $350 mil. I don’t have that. Respect.
If that s the case E 40 don’t get enough credit. The blueprint P got came from The Bay. Hats off to him for taking it to where he took it. As a west coast cat you would think Nipsey would acknowledge the forefathers of the independent grind Too $hort and 40
MASTER P. Put in place a move to live on in the business never settle for less to start, be in and out also know the importance on branding yourself.
As a hip hop music lover, I hate Masta P and his entire catalog. Maybe he’s an accomplished businessman, but the subpar music he put out 20 years ago is one of the reasons hip hop is in the state it’s in now.
cant forget west coast bad boyz volume 1 compilation cd. classic record.
yankees? haha P WAS IN HARLEM WITH dipset bout it bout 2 but you rep the south ahaha
I’m talking about all the “real hip hop” heads, purists, elitists, etc, up there, but yes, there are some NY dudes that do fuck wit P.
Um. How about diddy, jay z, and dre? P isn’t the only dude.
You’re right, he ain’t the only one. But have Diddy, Jay-Z and Dre ever had their label drop new music every week? What about an 85-15 deal with Priority? Have the #1 soundtrack and movie in America? With a “hood” movie, mind you? Only P did that, playboi. Once he did that, everyone else tried to do the same, but just couldn’t do it like he did. Ice Cream Man, uggggghhh!
Don’t get me wrong, I feel you. I’m not down playing P’s accomplishments. That would just be hating. He’s a top tier mogul.
Percy Miller at his best!!
Pen & pixel did the cover art so really they did the branding. Rappers need to give more credit to their producers, graphic designers, engineers, and the other employees on the team because its never a one man show
No Limit was the issh when they came out and had an amazing run. I love the music still and the cp3 DVD is crazy if u haven’t seen it. Nobody can take away what they did for the game they were the hottest label even took Snoop from Death ROw and really was the first dude to strand up to Suge Night. Free C
