Chance The Rapper descended on a South Shore school classroom in Chicago on Wednesday (December 6) for a surprise announcement, according to The Chicago Tribune. Lil Chano momentarily interrupted a fifth grade coding class and then joined several Google executives to unveil that Google’s charitable arm had made a $1 million donation to Chance’s arts education nonprofit, SocialWorks.
The Grammy Award-winning Chi-Town native took to Twitter to announce the news.
“Today @Google funded coding classes for 20 schools on the south and west sides,” he explained. “God bless everyone involved. Thank you.”
In addition to the $1 million donation to Chance’s nonprofit, Alphabet’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, David Drummond, revealed Google.com will also donate $500,000 directly to Chicago Public Schools.

The recent development continues Chance’s trend of pouring money into the Chicago Public Schools system, where he was once a student.
Last month, Chance’s charity also got a $1 million donation from supermarket chain Jewel-Osco for his New Chance: Arts & Literature Fund.
Over the past 10 months, Chance has raised $2.5 million for CPS and donated $1 million to 20 schools for arts education programs.
