Master P believes LaVar Ball should thank Donald Trump for the role he played in securing his son’s recent release from a Chinese prison.

LaVar’s son, LiAngelo, along with two other UCLA basketball players, was arrested in China earlier this month after being accused of shoplifting in Shanghai. Donald Trump has since taken to Twitter to claim that he personally asked the Chinese leader, President Xi Jinping, to look into the issue when he visited the country earlier this month.

LaVar has repeatedly refused to publicly thank Trump for intervening with the situation, sparking a war of words between the two bombastic men. Trump recently likened LaVar to “a poor man’s version of Don King, but without the hair,” and later labeled him an “ungrateful fool.”

While discussing the situation with TMZ, Master P said LaVar should be grateful for his son’s safe return.

“Man, I just think it’s a blessing to have your kids back at home, man,” Master P said. “You gotta just be humble.”

P’s comments come on the heels of a recent interview LaVar did with CNN where he again refused to publicly thank Trump for intervening with the situation. LaVar later claimed that he too “had some things done” to help secure his son’s release.

Master P later said he didn’t think it was wise for LaVar to continue to engage in a war of words with the president.

“Man, that’s a card you don’t wanna mess up,” P said. “No matter if you don’t agree with all the issues he has, I think that’s a card you don’t wanna mess up.”

Elsewhere, P offered some words of advice for LaVar Ball.

“I’d just say, ‘Man, just be thankful that your kids is safe [and] they not in prison and do the right thing, man,’” Master P said. “He had something to do with your kid getting home so, right is right [and] wrong is wrong. If that man had a big thing of getting his son back home, then that’s what it should be. Get respect where it’s at. To me, I put God first so I think that if somebody helped you, then you be appreciative for it. That’s it.”
