TIDAL On Air is providing Hip Hop fans with some of the must-hear podcasts. One of the banner shows of their programming is the Rap Radar Podcast hosted by Elliott Wilson and Brian “B. Dot” Miller.
The podcast relaunched earlier this summer and recently made waves thanks to an extensive interview with JAY-Z. For the veteran journalists-turned-podcast hosts, bringing fans these types of headline-making interviews is key.
“For us, it’s about relevancy,” Miller says. “Before booking a guest, Elliott and I ask ourselves ‘Why now?.’ With every episode, we try to document and reflect the current conversation in the game.”
It takes more than just landing a big name though. While Wilson and Miller don’t go into each interview with an elaborate gameplan, they make sure to do extensive amounts of research. “Elliott and I don’t talk until the mics are on, so we prepare separately,” Miller reveals. “I do an immense amount research. If we have an artist on, I’ll listen to their entire catalog and watch recent interviews. Afterward, I’ll jot questions down on my phone. I think our commitment to research has been our key to success.”
Ultimately, the format has given Hip Hop journalism a new avenue to flourish. And the Rap Radar Podcast is one of the many utilizing the advantages of the platform.

“I think accessibility is what makes podcasts so special,” Miller says. “You can listen to whatever interests you on your own time. You’re not bound to a schedule. Also, unlike radio, there isn’t FCC regulations. You can say whatever you want without censorship. It’s a liberating feeling.”
