Meek Mill has always represented the streets both in and out of the booth. However, in the midst of recent shooting deaths across the country, the Philly rapper took to Instagram to say that he is going to change his lyrical content after his upcoming Dreamchasers 4mixtape as he furthers his role as a leader in the streets.
“AFTER DC4 I won’t continue to rap about extreme violence!!!” he says for the caption of a picture of him boarding an airplane. “But I will remain to let my people know in these terrible environments to adapt and survive at any cost because ‘US BLACK PEOPLE ARE STILL AT WAR WITH OURSELVES AND THE SYSTEM IN REAL LIFE! #grammarcheck I don’t talk the ‘AMERICAN ENGLISH’ because I don’t believe in it…I never cared about writing or speaking that way! I dont dress that way …. I’m doing me better yet doing #us”
Meek Mill has had some trouble with the law throughout his career. He recently completed a stint on house arrest after violating probation from gun charges he received in 2008. He served six months in prison in 2014 after he violated the same probation by toting guns on Instagram.

The Game and Snoop Dogg have called a town meeting for gang members to meet this weekend to discuss Black-on-Black crime and how to build leadership within urban communities.
Wiz Khalifa said in 2014 that he purposely does not talk about violence in his music. Hailing from Pittsburgh, he said he understands how violence is embedded in street culture and wants to show kids there are other lifestyles to choose from.

“A lot of the kids from where I’m from and just not even where I’m from, but just the inner-city in general, that’s all we hear,” he said at the time. “That’s all we know. That’s all we really look up to. And it’s cool because we enjoy that from certain people, but I just always—just as a kid and being different I gravitated towards other things along with that. So, I just want to give kids an option to look at somebody who doesn’t talk about that stuff.”
