New York, NY

The third time was the charm for URL this weekend, as the New York-based battle rap giant successfully completed the 2-on-2 match between Tay Roc/Tsu Surf (Gun Titles) and DNA/K-Shine (NWX) at the “Unfinished Business 2” event held at the Highline Ballroom on Saturday (July 9).

The result was highly debatable, with fans in the building split on the winners.

The first time the two teams faced off was at the “Double Impact” event in March. The battle got overly heated, prompting the league to scratch it near the mid-way point of the scheduled three rounds. The official footage of the battle did big numbers on YouTube, generating more than 1.7 million plays since April 14, making it the most-viewed battle from the circuit so far this year.

A rematch was scheduled for June 4, but was postponed until this weekend after the venue, Santos Party House, shut down abruptly days before the event.

BattleRap.com writer Jackson Yates was in the building for the battle. He broke it down for HipHopDX.

“The rematch, though not as stunning as the original overall, was fire and definitely worth it. To the surprise of many fans, NWX’s Round 1 was actually the most electrifying of the battle, and K-Shine was the clear MVP. The chemistry that Gun Titles exhibited so effortlessly the first time around really didn’t show up until Round 3 this time, but I had them just edging a victory, arguably taking the second and clearly taking the third in a highly debatable battle.”

Others in the building edged it to DNA and K-Shine (considered major underdogs going into the event) but pretty much everyone agreed that the result was debatable and the battle was fire.
