Chet Hanx issued an apology yesterday (September 30) for defending his use of the n-word.
“I know a lot of y’all kinda understood the point I was trying to make,” he says in an Instagram video, “but the truth is, it’s not my place to speak on that and I’m genuinely sorry for the people that I offended.”
The rapper formerly known as Chet Haze says that he just got out of rehab for cocaine addiction.
“A couple months ago, I was selling coke, doing coke until I couldn’t even snort it up my nose anymore because it was so clogged,” he says. “I even smoked crack. If I can change, you can change. There is a solution.”

He says that one factor that drove him to addiction was trying to live up to his father, Tom Hanks.
“At the end of the day, all this stupid shit I was doing, that’s not who I am,” he says. “That’s not who I want to be. It’s been a long journey discovering who I am because of all the pressures I’ve dealt with in my life being the son of my dad and everything just trying to find where I fit in.”
