J. Cole’s “2014 Forest Hills Drive” Certified Platinum

    J. Cole’s third album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, has earned the platinum status, reaching one million albums sold, HipHopNMore reports.

The North Carolina emcee released the project in December and it debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. In this week’s album sales, the album sits at the #27 spot and is the fifth Rap album on the chart.

    J. Cole’s other two albums, 2011’s Cole World: The Sideline Story and 2013’s Born Sinner, are both certified gold.

Drake’s If Youre Reading This Its Too Late earned platinum status last month.

    1. see hiphop is getting soft and pop, it was drake now cole next kendrick… if you dont have a college degree or college classes in your pocket, you won’t make it there, this shiiit is like nba

    2. Took him almost 9 months just to go weak platinum. Drakes were at least strong platinum same distance (take care was at 2x platinum).

      1. No such thing as weak or strong platinum. If you cross a million, then you have succeeded. Nothing weak about selling a million at all when most rappers can barely sell gold. Plus, Drake is not hip-hop or soul (he will neve be the next Marvin Gaye with that gay ass pop shit) and Cole does not make pop (Work Out is hip-hop).

      2. And yet it took cole 3 albums plus 9 months to go weak platinum (yes, there’s such a thing in my books). Drake was already at strong platinum with his first album.

      3. Doesn’t matter. He still sold platinum. There is no such thing as weak or strong platinum, it’s something you made up. Not Cole’s fault he’s not a pop star like Drake.

      4. Who cares if I made it up? It took cole 9 months after 3 albums to crawl to barely 1 million. That is weak platinum and a disappointing number. Drake is a hiphop/R&B star and was already at Strong platinum ON HIS FIRST ALBUM!!

      5. You obviously care if you’re gonna defend some shit you made up. Cole still crossed one million (no barely) and is certified platinum. That’s a success, no matter how you paint it. There is no weak paltinum and there is no strong platinum. Drake is not hip-hop or R&B, he’s pop and he’s always been pop.

      1. Nothing in Power Trip is pop and there’s nothing wack about it. It’s a hip-hop song, period. Miguel is an R&B singer, not pop. He’s not Justin Bieber making teenybopper shit.

      2. You got that backwards. Bieber is doind wack pop shit, no R&B. Miguel is 100% R&B. Your words became irrelevant the moment you defend fucking Bieber.

    3. J Cole had no promo w this album and he goes Plat …. Big ups to this boy real deal. Can’t compare him to Drake who runs the game and ended Meek career w two songs .. Congrats Cole !

      1. FAKE, would never praise cole for making crap. Cole had tons of promo and still went weak platinum. Drake bodies everyone. Kendrick, cole, meek, wayne, baby, ross, chris brown, he bodies them all.

      2. Oh, look, It’s Dan. Still wrong. Tons of promo? Cole’s album had little to no promo and still went platinum (no such thing as weka platinum, platinum is platinum). And Drake didn’t body anyone.

      3. Wasn’t me. Drake is dope and one of the top rappers but I can’t ignore birdman or meek. He was right about promo though, cole had tons of promo. More promo than his first albums. If he’s that popular, it should being doing than weak platinum

      4. That is you. Drake sucks and is not a top rapper (top pop singer, yes). J Cole did not have a ton of promo, it was less promo than his previous albums. He released his album with no singles or marketing. Again, there is no such thing as weak platinum. There’s nothing weak about selling a million. Quit making shit up.

      5. No such thing as Twitter marketing. Outside of the internet, there was barely any marketing. Cole’s album still succeeded in spite of little to no promo. His previous two albums had more promo.

    4. Shut the fuck up there is no weak platinum ross has neva went plat how many albums he gat??? niggaz like downplaying other people’s success like drake going plat will put food on ur table pliz learn to kip ur opinion 2 urself

    5. J. Cole finally went platinum? How cute. Drizzaveli Da 6 God has four platinum albums. Cole has some serious catching up to do. #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife

      1. The Beastie boys sold 23 million I think.. 50 cent sold 13 million off one album..
PAC sold 5 mil in 2 months..
Drake is the one that needs to catch up!!
He doesn’t even have a classic yet!!

    6. Solid album, probably his second best project behind Friday Night Lights. Wouldn’t say it’s a top 10 rap album since it’s release though. But still a good project.

    7. Leave it to the Drake fanboys and dickriders to contaminate a comments section of an article congratulating J Cole for achieving platinum sales. Go ride Drake’s johnson in a Drake article.

    8. Dan and Don are getting married!!!!!!!! You are all invited and we can’t wait to see everyone!!!!!!!!!! We’ll be having the wedding and reception here in this comment section!!!!!!!!!!! Love you!!!!!!!

    9. Drake is more like Jay Z. Hes the biggest rapper of the time. Highest seller he is almost the face of the generation. But Kendrick and J.Cole are more like Nas. Nas didnt care that much for sales and awards. He cared more of leaving a mark on the culture and had more passion. Quality over quantity. Jay z had more hits than Nas but is he better or looked at as over Nas? No Nas is more of the heart of hip hop where jay z is the face. Same goes for Drake being the face and kendrick and j cole are held at the same level despite not being as “BIG ” .

      1. Dan, you got it wrong again. Drake is not in his own lane and he’s the pop star, not Jay Z, Nas, Kendrick, and Cole. Also, Jay Z and Nas are not washed up. And erdem, Drake doesn’t have any passion and doesn’t affect the culture more.

      2. I used to say the same thing about Jay z and Nas. But if you really look at it, Jay is so diverse and consistent that his real hip hop albums ( Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Black Album, etc) is equal to Nas. Yet he still have catalogs of mainstream works ( albums with R-Kelly, Kanye, Roc, etc).

Simply put, Jay is the King. Drake, Cole, Kendrick are the Prince.

      3. Only difference is that Hov had RD where he puts on a lyrical massacre.. Drake ddoesn’t have an RD or even a gkmc for that matter.
I’d say drake is the face based on pure relevance and crossover pop appeal and “hiphop” hits. I quote that bcus his hits barely contqin any great bars.. Don’t ever compare Drake to Jayz RAP-wise though

    10. This nigga Dan sound like a straight hater with his weak platinum / strong platinum agrument. Yeah it’s true, Drake sells more, everyone knows that but what’s the point of knocking someone else’s success? I bet your hero Drake congratulated Cole for his success. How many rappers do you see going platinum these days? It’s a big accomplishment & it is strong. Dan is too much in his feelings & making up shit.

    11. If rick Ross had stayed true to himself and sing correctional rap shit he would had at Least one platinum album
      …a boss without gloss huh
