A$AP Ferg partnered with local organizations to host the Ferg Health Fair in the rapper’s hometown of Harlem, New York on Sunday (August 9), Global Grind reports.

A$AP Ferg was inspired by his late father to create the event where under-privileged youth were given health exams and deejay scratch lessons, among other activities.

“Growing up, my dad always emphasized the vitality of giving back to the community and making sure we never gave up on our dreams,” the rapper says. “His encouragement motivated me to never settle and he’s the reason I am where I am today, but I’m not the only one. My dad spent his life helping kids in the community stay off the streets and make something of themselves. He may be gone but his legacy lives on through the people of our neighborhood and all the lives he touched.”

In January, the rapper partnered with VH1’s Save the Music to volunteer at a middle school in Washington, D.C.
