Action Bronson spoke highly of his debut album, Mr. Wonderful, during an interview featured in XXL’s spring 2015 issue.
The Q&A article, titled “Stay True,” delves into the creation of the album.
Bronson tells XXL that Mr. Wonderful is “a piece of art.”
“It’s a musical. It’s like watching a show,” he says.
When asked about the magic that goes into his creative process, Bronson says, “You gotta push the muthafuckin’ envelope.”
“I did a lot of envelope-pushing with instruments and vocals and shit like that,” he says. “You can’t keep doing the same shit over and over. It’s [Mr. Wonderful] a next level concept, trying things, beautiful segments and shit like that. It’s not like anything you’ve heard before.”
Though the album has been critically acclaimed, the term “classic” has not been used in most reviews. Opposed to striving for a “classic” project, Bronson said he prefers the album to be “timeless.”
“Everyone wants a classic. We want a timeless project,” he says. “We want a project that will stand the test of time forever. There are certain songs that we listen to and we know to this day that we will listen to ’til the day we die. Muthafuckas like my kids will listen to these songs.”
Mr. Wonderful was released March 23. It debuted at #7 on Billboard’s Hot 200. HipHopDX gave the album 4/5 stars.

album was meh. i was super dissapointed
“Flop” is the new “classic” then? And when you debut #7 and are off the charts two weeks later that’s… what again?
Thankfully Bronson doesn’t need a shitty maintsream record to succeed; his warm personality and his performances more than compensate but I think Arian is deluding himself about “Mr. Wonderful.”
The problem wasn’t pushing the envelope but that he did so in an often CORNY fashion.
Your shit wasn’t classic fam, it sucked. Quit trying to convince everyone it is something it isn’t.
I remember when you were promoting it, and you were talking about Mobb Deep and Kool G rap features and shit. Then you didn’t deliver on any of it.
Since when was this album critically acclaimed??? All I hear is bad things about it
album was one of the most disappointing..you come hard 1st album save all that bullshit experimenting for when your on and set. this album is great
